Is it possible to install DREAM.3D through my terminal?  I am on a Ubuntu machine and would like to download DREAM.3D to a server (also with a Linux OS) through the terminal using sudo apt-get install.

Is this possible? If so, do I simply type sudo apt-get install DREAM.3D, or is the software name written differently?

Thank you for the help!

Liz,
Sorry, we don't support apt-get. You can download the distribution through the web site and then transfer the .tar.gz file to the server. Then log into the server and just "tar -xvzf DREAM3D……tar.gz" and it should unpack just fine.

A follow-up question to my previous post:

My server is a different linux-flavour (debian) than my desktop (ubuntu).  I see that on the DREAM.3D website the linux distribution is for ubuntu, and my question is can I successfully download and run this version on my debian server?

I want to ask prior to testing this out unpacking the .tar.gz file on the server so as to not disrupt other users' work.  My goal is to download DREAM.3D in a location where all users have access.

Thanks again,
Liz

Hi Elizabeth,

DREAM.3D should run alright on pure Debian; Ubuntu is based on Debian.  More specifically, I believe any Debian "jessie" release should work fine, although I have never personally tried it.

hope that helps,

Thanks, Sean. I figured it should be fine but I wanted to check since I am a new Linux user and also I am downloading on a server as opposed to my local machine.
