Dear Jesse,
Use the latest version of DREAM.3D and load up the "Prebuilt
Pipelines->Workshop->Synthetic->(01) Single Cubic Phase Equiaxed"
pipeline. (Just double click the bookmark). After the pipeline loads
(May take about 5 seconds or so) click on the "Initialize Synthetic
Volume" filter (Should be #2 filter) and changed the "Dimensions"
parameter to be 300, 300, 100 and the resolution to 0.3, 0.3, 0.3 and
then run the pipeline. View the .xdmf file using ParaView. I think this
is what you are after.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael,

I managed to generate the shape and it contains grains of random grain sizes. Is there a way to control how big the grains are?

Thanks!

Adding to the previous message. I am aware of how to change the grain sizes. I am asking mainly on whether I can precisely indicate a certain size at a certain location.

Thanks!

You can control the sizes pretty tightly but NOT where those grains show
up. This is an often requested feature but is non-trivial to implement.
I would encourage anybody in the community who is working on such an
algorithm to consider donating the codes to the DREAM.3D project.

Thanks

Hi Michael,

I have transitioned into using primary features instead of developed grains to complete my project. The advantage is that Dream 3D can actually output the goal attributes and the input is simply a reordered version of the output. The benefit is that the primary phase file contains the seeds of the grains instead of the grains themselves. One of the main challenges that I am facing is how to generate natural looking grain boundaries from existing grains, and using the primary phases solve that problem.

I want to ask what is "phase"? I have created cubes of various grain sizes but the output goal attribute file for them all have phase = 1.

A "Phase" is the Materials Science definition of a Phase.
