Hello Experts,

I have developed a filter for generating lamellar plates/regions in all grains along some specific directions. When I try to visualize it with Paraview, it seems OK (1st figure ). However, if I unselct the option "Map Scalars", it does not show lamellae in all grains (2nd figure).

Could you please advise me how to overcome this issue?

Many thanks in advance,
Helal Chowdhury

Within ParaView, what array are you coloring by? Misorientation Color? IPF Color? Feature ID? Something else?

When you uncheck the “Map Scalars” ParaView assumes you are providing the color information. Really the only time you should uncheck the “Map Scalars” button is if you are visualizing precomputed colors such as IPF Colors, Misorientation Colors or if you applied a Color Map within DREAM.3D itself.

In your filter (are you going to publish the source code by chance?) do you consider the lamellar plates considered a different feature ID or are you applying just an orientation change?

Thank you so much Mike, you are so quick to reply, much appreciated.

good to know that the color map is not precomputed for all attributes. So far, I only modified cellPhases and cellEulerAngles within each feature/grain, which will definitely invalidate some Feature data, and I tried to visualize modified EulerAnglesMagnitude. The new filter is only a trial version and  to be modified more and more I think, once we will have real experimental data.

regarding your question, probably I'd not modify FeatureIds, rather my plan is to consider each lamella with different ParentIds. Since my Institute is a public and non-profit one, I guess, things might be publishable once they serve our purpose.

I'll come back to you if I face more Problems.

Kind regards,
Helal

Hi Helal, I am now also want to build a synthetic microstructure with lamellars in grain, just like you do in the picture. Can you tell me how to build this lamellar structure? Thanks very much.

Hi, Helal
I want to build a synthetic microstructure with lamellar grains in Dream3D, an essential part of my master's project. I would appreciate it if you shared the Dream3D pipeline for making lamellars.

Have a good day!

Kind regards,
Huigao

Hello Huigao,
Are you wanting to just have a “rolled” microstructure? Or are you trying to trying to make something like a titanium microstructure? Do you have an image from the real world for the type of microstructure that you are targeting?

Hello Mike,

I made a  lamellar  duplex steel structure using an experimental method. Unfortunately, I was unable to build this model using DREAM3D.You know, I always have all kinds of questions, and I really appreciate your reply every time.Attached is my EBSD tissue structure.

Have a good day!

Hi Huigao, Chengpeng,

My apologies for not being available. In fact, I left my research job and the related tasks several years ago. Due to a change in my career direction,  I did not keep the source code with me.  Unfortunately, I am not totally active with Gmail, that's why I could not notice your messages. Somehow today I opened my Gmail inbox.

If you want to develop your own filter for varying lamellar thickness and directions, I could describe my method/algorithm. Please let me know, if you need it.

thanks and best regards, Helal

Deart Helal,
If you could describe the algorithm to the best of your ability, that would be great and serve future versions of DREAM3D-NX
