Dear Nercelena,
Immigration Reform is on the move! As the Senate prepares to take on the immigration reform bill (S. 744), CHIRLA is
advancing our values and principles for immigrant rights, and you can do the same. No matter what happens, take one minute of your day, EVERY DAY and call
1-888-817-5602. This toll free number will always connect you with the most important players in the immigration reform fight.
Last week was an eventful week for CHIRLA. Our advocacy efforts were a success and the Los Angeles City Council adopted a resolution authored by Council Member Huizar in support of AB 60, which seeks to allow undocumented immigrants to apply for a driver’s license, click here<
http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=w2YzDrYtML30VhYeA5BUuZKciNqhN1uM> for a link to the language of AB 60.
We also had 5 members of our Wise Up! Program graduate from Fairfax High School. LAUSD School Board Member, Steve Zimmer honored CHIRLA's youth group at
the graduation ceremony and expressed his support for a Path to Citizenship! Congratulations to Myrtha Ortiz, Stephanie Reyes, Sandra Romero, Johana Medoza and Perla Lopez as they continue their fight for immigration reform and higher education!
The White House also released a video of CHIRLA organizer, Diana Colin, who met with and shared her story with President Obama and Vice-President Biden two weeks ago. Check her video out here<
http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=ZCipkVDfH8UV%2FjQ0cRB31pKciNqhN1uM> and share it with your friends!
CHIRLA wound up the weekend in Bakersfield. Our Movement Building Training reached over 60 leaders from all over the state preparing them to move forward immigrant rights in places like Taft, Stockton, Tustin, and Victorville. The training included families who are committed to
fight for immigration reform and is part of CHIRLA's effort to build state-wide infrastructure for immigrant rights in California.
This week the fight for immigration reform heats up once again. The Senate begins the floor debate on immigration reform and we need to make our voices heard. We still don't have bill in the House of Representatives, so it's going to be important to get more people involved, taking action everyday. Here is what you can do this week
1. Call Senator Feinstein and Members of Congress every day this week and let them know Immigration Reform is important to you and for all of California. Call
1-888-817-5602 and say, "As the largest immigrant state, it is important for you to fight for immigration reform that keeps families together and puts everyone on a path to citizenship. Remember November when immigrant voters and their allies will again make clear that immigration reform continues to be a priority to California
families."
2. Join us for a Father's Day Action on Thursday, June 13th at 10:00am at the Los Angeles Metrpolitan Center (535 N Alameda St., Los Angeles, CA 90012).
We will bring mariachis to commemorate fathers who are currently separated from their families and let them know we continue to fight for them and their families. We will then march to the Twin Tower County Jail and have fathers share their stories. Please join us!
3. Support our campaign! We need your help to educate, train and mobilize California immigrants. Please donate to CHIRLA's $11 for the 11 Million campaign<
http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=B6kowafGJ41YLHf4fuXjHrUTAcBGo2oI> by clicking here<
http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=VdMupX%2FNS9oyGOqOEo8PT5KciNqhN1uM>. Donations of $11 or more will receive a free campaign sticker to show your support for immigrant rights. Donate today!
Thank You,
Angelica Salas
