For FM12 the editor is a completely separate entity to the game itself, and as such needs to be downloaded from Steam independent of the game itself. To do this go to Steam's Library and click on "All Games" then "Tools" then "Football Manager 2012 Editor". After that simply select "Install".
The old FM Data Editors used to take ages to load and were painstakingly slow on many computers. Nowadays the requirements are the same (512MB of RAM) but due to the preferences menu it is possible to significantly speed up the running of your editor.
-Display mode allows you to select a particular resolution for display. I always select "windowed" because it allows me to navigate away from the editor with ease and carry out research on my project.
-Maximum records for search is the most important setting. On old editors searches for people used to take forever to finish if you had a slow system but thanks to this system you can specify how many records to display per search to optimise performance. It always defaults to 500.
-Compress editor data files simply means that if you make many changes the game can save a compressed data file (.dbc format) which will contain all of the same details but will be smaller. I tend not to use this but if you are making wholesale changes I would recommend it.
-Save backup file is a safety feature. The editor will automatically save .bak files at certain points during your editing after you first save. These are best deleted once your edit is finished however as they don't really do much at all.
When you press "Save Editor Data As" for the first time a new folder should be created to store all of your edits in. All downloaded files will have to be placed in here in order for the game to be able to read them upon starting a new game. The folder is located at:
When you click on the new game option you should see that the file which you have created is automatically loaded. However if it isn't you should see an option called "Choose editor data files". Click on the "Change" tick box and that should bring up a list of all of the files which you have created. Select the ones which you want the game to load and click on "Confirm". Done!
-Reload each file in turn and overwrite the Long and Short names of each of your created competitions. You don't have to change the name so an easy way is to select everything and then press Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V to Cut and Paste the original name.
I personally don't know why this occurs, however for some teams it is an intended feature. This means that SLB can't be changed to Benfica, FCP to Porto or SCP to Sporting Lisbon. If you want to know why then it would probably be best to take it up with a member of SI's development team.
I liked to play with the German and Japanese teams active, therefore I had to access the Inc.files etc. by locating the place where I saved FM11 to, right-click and go through a series of stages but, due to 'Steam' handling the installation, I can't find where it is.
B Teams. How do they work, by that I mean can I say be Man Utd, how do I make Barca in place of my reserve team where I can control them if I want like reserve teams are treated now, or how do I make them like a real B team where I have to send players there like a feeder team?
Start dates with multiple leagues, how do they work? I manage in Spain but I start in Jan MLS what would that do to my game, I know my team would just have no games for 6 months but the league history might still be there for stuff that happened up until July 6 or whenever the default date is for Europe. Would starting early effect anything, regens or anything?
Hello, I'm a complete Amateur when it comes to Editing as I've never done much except create players, up untill last night that is. Last night I created a new Cup Competition for England that had was participated in by level 1 to 6 with a specific rule of the entire match squad being Home Grown.
I want to do this with every European Nation, but I also want to create a Champions League style cup with the same rule. It seems that when you create a database, you are only able to add either Nation Rules, Club Continental Rules or International Rules.
My actual question is... How would I get the Nation Cups included in with the Champions League style cup? Do I just merge the files? Or can it be done in 1 single file? I hope people understand what I'm asking
It cannot be done in a single file unless you use something called the "advanced panel" which allows you to write multiple database changes and new competitions to the same file. But you have admitted that you are a beginner so that appears to be above your head, it's above mine too .
Yeah, I did add the "advanced panel" to the editor, but as your say, it's way above my head . I don't understand half of it and how it makes things work. As for normal editing, I created the cup competition and only took me 4 attempts to make it fully work with no bugs.
I'm also looking to create a club from scratch and add that in too, would i need to create the same club twice if i was using them seperately, or could i create it in 1 file and merge it into both files? Hope that makes sense.
I'm having a bit of trouble here again... Created a continental cup competition and sorted it all out. I come to testing it and I get an error saying "Error In Club Continental Rules" "Number of teams in Second Knockout Round in Euro HG Cup should be divisible by 2"...
I don't understand it because for "Number of teams starting at this stage" I have put "16" as the previous stage was "32" which makes sense because it was also a Knockout Round? 32 divided by 2 = 16...
"Number of teams starting at this stage" describes the number of teams which haven't passed through the knockout rounds yet. So if you don't have any teams for whom this round will be their first matches then that should be left alone.
I know its not exactly basic stuff, but I recently removed squad registration from English and scottish divisions without having to recreate the leagues. I was actually wanting to remove the transfer windows so I could use an affiliated B team but I thought I'd remove the squad registration whilst I was at it. Only took me about 15 minutes too. I used the resource archiver tool to extract the base xml files from the comps.fmf file. I simply scanned down the English and Scottish structure files looking for the squad reg and transfer window entrys, and removed them. Then I rebuilt the comps.fmf file using the resource archiver again. Worked forst time. As I say, not for the newb editor as it involves editing the base files manually, but theyre pretty easy to follow and the resource archiver isn't tricky to use...... anyway, thought I'd add that.
Open the editor and load the database. Make the changes that you desire and press "save editor data". Then save it in your editor data folder, start up the game, make sure that the game has the file ticked when you try and start a new game, and then you're done...
Anyway, just to warn you that I have a thread in the editor bugs thread about this. I set a transfer embargo on a club between 2009 and 2100 to achieve exactly what the poster is looking for, but it's being completely ignored. I'll be interested if any of you guys get it working.....
Yes, Mr H is spot on. The relative quality of a league used to be set in stone, but that has now changed to allow leagues to gain or lose reputation just as clubs do. If clubs from a particular league do well in continental competitions, for example, then the league rep will go up a little, and clubs within that league have a slightly better chance of signing bigger name players (though the club's own reputation is the major part of this, obviously). Hope that makes some sort of sense!
Hi everybody. I'm creating a custom league where the top 8 teams play a double round-robin playoff and the winner gets promoted. Thing is I don't know how to make the playoff a two-round mini league, because, unlike what happens when you create a cup-style playoff, the standard editor doesn't have the option to make a league playoff to have two rounds.
Im Barcelona and dont watch the matches but instead choose to read the text and for me its really hard to read so I went into the editor and made the test a nice bright red but it doesnt load into the new game.Im guessing I can only do this before I start a new game right?
An article about Football Manager tends to write itself. You can continue to harp on about its destructive tendency to take over your own life. Maybe throw in a few crafted asides about taking your plucky band of strugglers to improbable European glory, and then go about the business of discussing the shiny new features, before finishing up with a tearful account of how your partner shacked up with the editor of the Angling Times because it was a better option than hearing about contract negotiations and tactical nuances before bed. Job done.
