I found these free test questions on Exam Compass, but I'm questioning the legitimacy of these questions because I wasn't expecting to score an 81% on my first try without ever studying before. I was surprised to see that it was basically a security vocabulary quiz and that I already knew a lot of the concepts.

Background: Receptive vocabulary is an important measure for language evaluations. Therefore, norm-referenced receptive vocabulary tests are widely used in several languages. However, a receptive vocabulary test has not yet been normed for Modern Greek.

Conclusions & implications: The revised word list can serve as the basis for adapting a receptive vocabulary test for Greek preschool-aged children. Further steps need to be taken when testing larger numbers of 2;0 to 5;11-year-old children on the revised word list for determination of norms. This effort will facilitate early identification and remediation of language disorders in Modern Greek-speaking children.

The Expressive Vocabulary Test, Third Edition (EVT-3) is an instrument that can be used to assess English-speaking expressive vocabulary and word retrieval. For a comprehensive assessment of English-speaking vocabulary, this tool can be used in conjunction with the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT), a measure of receptive vocabulary.

Q-interactive is Pearson's web- and iPad-based system for interactive, seamless assessment, scoring, and reporting. The Vocabulary Size Test covers 20,000 word families and can be used with native speakers and advanced non-native speakers. The 14,000 version is best used with only advanced non-native speakers or native speakers under 12 years old. There are some bilingual versions of the tests and these should be preferred ahead of monolingual versions, especially for lower proficiency learners.

The Vocabulary Levels Test measures knowledge of particular frequency levels of words (e.g., the first 1,000 and second 1,000 words). It is the most suitable test for measuring the vocabulary size and vocabulary knowledge of elementary and intermediate learners of English as a foreign language.

There are two recent versions of the test and these are the best one to use: the Updated Vocabulary Levels Test and the New Vocabulary Levels Test. They are listed here along with the articles describing them.

I stumbled (purely by chance) across an activity a few years back that did actually have the fun element. It was close to Christmas and this particular group was getting squirmy. Ready for the break to begin. My aim was to simply give them a fun activity to break the rut, but it turned out to be a really cool vocabulary exercise for them. Since then, I have done this a few more times and have seen positive results both in how well they retain information and how much they enjoy showing what they have retained.

By the end of the class period, they have a dance to show along with a list of ballet words they can officially put in their vocabulary vault. Plus, it builds the team and offers plenty of opportunity for a variety of critical thinking skills to be used. Not to mention it is loads of fun!

Language learning consists of the following parts: grammar, vocabulary learning and speaking. Of these; grammar is the one that can be completed in the shortest time. Speaking is only possible if you know words. There are tens of thousands of words in a language. The vocabulary learning process is quite long. You can test your vocabulary to know how many words you know and plan your learning process accordingly.

Receptive vocabulary is words that learners recognize and understand when they are used in context, but which they cannot produce. It is vocabulary that learners recognize when they see or meet in reading text but do not use it in speaking and writing (Stuart Webb, 2009).

Productive vocabulary is words that the language learners understand and can pronounce correctly and use constructively in speaking and writing. It involves what is needed for receptive vocabulary plus the ability to speak or write at the appropriate time. Therefore, productive vocabulary can be addressed as an active process, because the learners can produce the words to express their thoughts to others (Stuart Webb, 2005).

The test now consists of 190 items presented in a developmental sequence (based on the 2010 normative sample) that reflects the concepts with which people currently have experience through home, school, or media. The expanded norms allow use of the test with adults in various diagnostic, rehabilitation, or therapeutic settings. The EOWPVT-4 has been co-normed with the ROWPVT-4 to provide a comprehensive assessment of expressive and receptive vocabulary.
