Hi,
New to diagram.net. I created a table that has two columns and many rows. As I'm moving down I want to merge two cells into one large row as a header. I can't figure out a way to merge two cells together.
I searched this forum and it states you have to edit the html. It says to press the </> html button in the format panel. I can't find that symbol </> anywhere. I can't find where to edit the html.
Can some give me some pointers on where to edit the html to merge two cells?
Thank you!

How did you create the table? (The above refers to HTML tables, the button appears when you start editing the label of a cell.)

Hi, thank you for your reply. When I start to type text I see </> over in "text" menu. But, not in the "format" menu. When I press it, it raises the cursor up a bit in the cell. I figured that's for adding html to the cell. Like if you want to type in a code block. I don't see how I can use that to merge two cells together. ??

Hi,

I am not sure how you created a table but my suggestion would be to check this article https://drawio-app.com/tables-in-drawio-got-a-makeover/
especially part titled "Tables with a Header row"

If you are trying to use HTML tables, you can try and add colspan attribute as described here:

Hope something will help.

Hi,
That's the document that I've been using to create the tables. Works great. But it doesn't show how to merge cells. In that document, the second section, "Tables with header rows". The first row is a header. All for cells are "merged" to make the header. That has the text centered that says "table".

Let's say you have the same table. You have 10 rows instead of the five rows (including header) in the document. Let's say on the fifth row you want to make another header row. Where all four columns/cells are merged, just like in row 1.
How do you do that? I can't find how you do that anywhere.

I have tried creating a table...let's say 4x4. Pressing "shift" before letting go. Which creates the first header row. Let's say the 5th row as I said previously I want to make into another header row. I've looked and can't find how to do that. I've tried several key combinations. I still can't figure out away.
The only work-around I can find which is not very pragmatic is to create two tables of equal columns each with a header row. Then line them up. Select both tables and group them together. The two problems that I have found are:
1. If you have already entered data and need to go back and create another header row. You have to split all that data.
2. The "grouping" function doesn't work that well. I "group" the two tables together. I do some work. I click on the table to move it and it seems to have loss its "group" to the other table. :/
