I have a combination of shapes that I want to copy as an image to be able to resize it smaller just as image.
This feature does not work as expected.
Even if I group before together all my shapes and they do copy as image ans paste here, it keeps all shapes as separate ones and not as easily resizable image.
All the lines keep their weight in points and stay thick when resizing.
Any help on these topics would be appreciated
thanks in advance

I am using the windows PC version of draw.io

Wow!!!! This is a really, really, old, topic. :)

Anyway, I'm having the *exact* same issue Fred is mentioning here, and I'm doing exactly the same steps: put two shapes on a page, select the two shapes, group - or don't - them, select "Copy as Image" after you right-click the group - or use the Edit Menu, it's the same behavior - and then paste - again, either by right clicking on the page or using the option from the Edit menu - it just pastes the shape group, and not an image.

I'm using the latest Desktop MacOS version (29.6.1) - universal DMG. I'm running the latest up to date MacOS Tahoe (26.3.1).

By the way: I've already tried the "diagrams.net" web version - same behavior - and also on different browsers - Safari and Firefox. Exactly the same behavior.

Something that might help: if, in the group that I've selected there's an image as part of the selection, and I choose - either from the menu or from the right-click option - "Copy as image", draw.io correctly copies the whole selection as one image.
However, if in the selected objects in the group there's not an image, then the behavior is exactly as Fred described, back in 2020, nowadays.

By the way #2: I've also tried creating a blank page only with the shapes that I want to be transformed as an image, but that doesn't work as well.

I'm feeling like somebody putting a message in a bottle, let's hope somebody reads this :) :)

If there's some other test I need to do in order to help on this, please, let me know!

Att,
Wolff

A follow up that might be useful about this section here: "Something that might help: if, in the group that I've selected there's an image as part of the selection, and I choose - either from the menu or from the right-click option - "Copy as image", draw.io correctly copies the whole selection as one image.

However, if in the selected objects in the group there's not an image, then the behavior is exactly as Fred described, back in 2020, nowadays."

This behavior manifests if - and only if - the image selected as part of the other objects is a "big image" - "but what is a big image?" - not sure. What I know is that, by just selecting a small image (couple of hundreds of Kbytes), the behavior is the same, faulty one: it just replicates the objects, whichever they are. However if the image is bigger - more than a couple of Mbytes, maybe larger than that, I couldn't find the exact threshold - the behavior is as expected - everything selected becomes a whole image.

Hope that helps.

Wolff

It's a feature, not a bug - the image (and SVG) includes the XML for the selection cells which is then inserted when pasted. The XML in the image and SVG will be removed in the next release.
