Customizedfor pool swimming, its unique non-slip design keeps the HRM-Swim in place during push-offs and withstands repeated exposure to pool chemicals. This HRM stores heart rate data when underwater, and sends real-time heart rate and interval summaries during rests with the HRM out of the water.

HI I have a brand new Swim 2 and its stopping around 20-25 minutes into my swim and returning to the watchface.

I have the latest software but it still does it. Are there any workarounds to stop this. Pretty disappointing after spending $450 on the watch.

I deleted watch faces I had installed and did a factory reset and it hasn't happened since. I have contacted garmin about it and they took diagnostic files and asked me to send the garmin folder from my watch, hopefully they can get to the bottom of it.

I've only had my Swim 2 for a few weeks now, I didn't have this issue initially but one day it stopped mid swim and returned to the watch face. Then it did it again on the next swim, and has progressively gotten worse. I swim every day, and 9 times out of 10 it happens. It's now gotten to a point where I can't even swim more than 1,000-2,000 yards before it actually shuts down and restarts mid swim. I've deleted all watch faces except the originals, and still happens.

A few hours after my swim this morning it installed the new software version 5.0. If this doesn't solve the issue, I'm sending it back, this is ridiculous. I find it totally unacceptable for such an expensive watch that is so dedicated to swimming that it costs almost as much as some of their other models that have way more features.

I am just wondering, at what conditions does the watch crash? Swim workout, or just normal pool swim? I never ever had a crash so far (but I do not use the workout feature), and I used my watch a lot. Unfortunately because lockdown here I can not swim these days.

I mean, the model is obviously built for swimmers, but does it function properly? I've come across some bad viewpoints. I'm not a pro, but because I swim... Is it worthwhile to purchase this device rather than another Garmin model? Is it also capable of recognising different swimming styles?

I'm a master swimmer and I had other devices in the past (Swimmo, Poolmate, Garmin Swim 1). This is really the best I had: very precise in counting and recognizing the style. Very good also in open waters. I reccomend it

I see other people say the swim2 has problems detecting the stroke. I have a garmin 935 and it also has a problem confusing breaststroke with backstroke. Garmin tech denies that anyone else has this problem. I told them to google it. I can understand confusing any stroke with any other stroke, except back stroke. I am considering getting a swim 2, because I don't like swimming with a chest strap, and I want to get the heart rate readings even if not completely accurate. But until I hear from Garin tech that the stroke detection issue has been resolved or until I can change it manually, I don't really want to spend the money or encourage them.

I never had problems with stroke detection; when it shows a wrong stroke, means that I am tired (i.e butterfly) and my stroke is not correct. Also heart readings are quite accurate: you have to wear it rather tight to avoid bad readings

Stroke detection is ok more or less. It really depends on your technique. Another tip, if stroke detection is terrible, try with the other wrist. For me, on left wrist, everything is detected as breaststroke, on the right everything is perfect.

In my opinion, from Garmin point of view the stroke detection is good. Note, that they should guess from the arm movement, and they do not see a full path but only some accelerations and decelerations.

This watch has a technological drawback: I have been swimming regularly for over 15 years and have been using the Swimm 2 for 8 months swimming in the 25m pool, 1000-2000m freestyle and 100-200 breaststroke. Once in 10 workouts, the Swimm 2 watch will tell you the correct distance, and most often it "loses" from 1 to 3 or even 4 pools! Besides, it has problems with the correct recognition of the swimming style: classic and freestyle mixes with backstroke! Sometimes Swimm 2 will add additional pools - I have had one additional pool added two or three times. Garmin's technical support has been saying for 8 months that my swimming style is a problem, that I make uncontrolled and uncoordinated movements, that I swim at an uneven pace, that my stroke cadence is too low, that I have a wrong turn, etc. They advise me to wear Swimm 2 on the second wrist to set the correct pool length and the appropriate units / meters not different / - for 8 months they have been treating me like an imbecile giving such advice! I have already had two exchanges of this Swimm 2 product and the third watch shows the same disadvantages: it mostly leaves 1 to 4 pools at 40-60 swims and that's the first 200 meters! He usually reports the rest of the distance correctly. Its other activity and fitness tracking functions work fine, although sometimes the GPS does not record your bike or running route very accurately: the path may run a few meters alongside! Apart from these swimming disadvantages, it's OK - but it's a smartwatch for swimmers! It is Absurd!

I think that Garmin technical support is correct; I'm using Swim2 since one year and half and it is very precise; the only mistakes happen when you did not a good turn or when you change style in the middle of the pool. But swimming and turning correctly, it is working perfectly, much more better than Poolmate or Swimmo I had before

Do you think 1 to 4 pools are wrong with my style and turn, and the other 54 to 59 are correct? :) And so with every training for 8 months? :) I never change the style and pace in the middle of the track! Such allegations, comments from Garmin support are nonsense!

I push off the wall a lot and slide at least 5 meters. The arm with the watch starts to move second, only somewhere at 6 meters. Also, if I had a weak wall push, it would be weaker with distance, not at the beginning of the distance / and Swimm 2 counting and jamming errors always occur in the first to eight pools! / Wall push off is not a problem! The problem is the technology in this model!

The HRM-SWIM meanwhile is much wider, and has a sticky-like material on the band that keeps it in place on your body. Sorta like a silicone-ish kinda thing going down. It holds to your body quite well when you push off the wall.

Next, both Suunto & Polar have swim-capable straps in the market. Suunto does the same thing as Garmin by caching the data underwater in the pod. Whereas Polar actually broadcasts over an analog stream to the watch in real-time.

But what sets the HRM-SWIM & HRM-TRI apart from other ANT+ straps is that they have storage within them. They are effectively like little USB thumb drives, without the part you stick in your computer.

For European/Australian/New Zealand readers, you can also pickup the unit via Wiggle at the links below, which helps support the site too! With Wiggle new customers get 10GBP (or equivalent in other currencies) off their first order for anything over 50GBP by using code [Currently Disabled] at check-out after clicking the links below.

Are the issues you mentioned with 3rd party sites also present when the data is coming through Garmin Connect or just when you try to upload directly the file to those services? (or otherwise, is Garmin Connect trying to integrate the HR data to appear seamless, or is just sending the raw data to the partner site?).

Yes! And a report from a woman who has tried the HRM-TRI in a pool under a one piece suit would be appreciated as well. If it stays put, then no need for women to also buy the SWIM if the TRI version will stay put.

Just got a bit of clarification that it will show max/avg for the set if you hold it close AND configure a data page to show last lap HR AVG/MAX. That takes a moment or two, but should download quickly if you hold close.

So a better solution all round for me would be those sites supporting the display of the data and using a wrist based optical HR or one included in the watch (which must be the next big feature for Garmin multi sport watches?)

1) Today you need a Garmin watch to collect the data. But a 3rd party could write an app to do so (via computer or phone that supports ANT+)

2) You need to hand wash it. The instructions note machine washing is bad.

I was wondering whether Garmin plans to implement the pushing of heartrate data to the end of the activity for other activity types as well. This could insure a higher quality of heart rate measurement since they sometimes have dropouts in measurements during running and cycling due to loss of transmission.

Just for the sake of clarity, there is 1) the basic capability like any other Ant+ HRM for sensing heart rate interactively, and also 2) the HRM-Tri special capability to self-buffer heart rate data after communication to a FR920XT has been lost.

This is actually a nice side-feature of the HRM-Tri. It can absolutely be used to record your basketball/soccer/cross-training/etc. Just put on the HRM-Tri, select any sport mode on the 920 (for example, indoor run for basketball), start a session and then you can leave the watch in your gym bag or even in your locker. At the end of the game/activity, select Stop then Save as usual, and the watch will automatically request the HR data from the HRM-Tri. The trigger to look for stored heart rate data is simply 30 consecutive seconds of missing heart rate data (when the HRM is out of range of the watch).

Has anyone heard anything further regarding Trainingpeaks support for HRM Swim data? I seem to get have more luck asking here than on the trainingpeaks pages. I have noted that the autosync data now properly supports the swim intervals correctly, but not the HR data. I can manually export the activity as a tcx file from Garmin and upload it to Trainingpeaks, resulting in HR data displaying properly. However this ruins my interval pace data.
