Dear fellow Dragons
Due to one of our players taking a leave of absence to start a new career and moving on we now have space for some fresh meat for the grinder, I mean new blood!
A little about us, we've been playing a campaign in the post-apocalyptic fantasy world of Dark Sun for 4e DnD on monday nights. If you don't know it, think Conan, Gladiator, Fire and Ice (great cartoon if you've never seen it) with a mix of the Dark Crystal (Jim Henson) and a subtle nod to elements of Star Wars (the force). It's a world where magic has drained and defiled the land to such an extent that there is virtually no running water and everywhere you look is barren wasteland of blistering hot deserts, where everything is trying to kill you - even the plants! It is survival mixed with the concepts of slavery, city politics and 7 horrifically powerful tyrant kings who rule the lands with iron fists. Psionics is the dominant force and pretty much everything in the world has some kind of minor ability (even squirrels!) so you have been warned!
There is a growing restlessness however and hope is coming from the humblest of sources, brave adventurers who - like it or not, have been thrown into a whirlwind of events that will force them to choose sides and, with a little luck and a lot of hard work, might just grow powerful enough to change the world forever…
From a more practical perspective we play a game that is a healthy mix of combat and roleplaying. Its one of those things that you get out what you put in, I try to encourage everyone to develop rich characters and backgrounds that really help them to integrate into the world. Its an open sandbox type approach which is based in the players home city of Tyr, with the occasional trek into the wilderness to break things up. We've been playing now for over 3 years with most of the players having been in the group either from the start of for 2+ years so that must say something!
If that sounds interesting to you, give me a shout and i'll explain more. One thing I would say if you are hesitant about trying 4e have an open mind, there is a lot to love about 4e once you get your head round it and a WOW clone it certainly isn't if you put the terminology out of mind. I have also made a few house rules and added some extra touches that give a lot more freedom for the roleplaying side of Dnd to come to the fore.
