Hi guys,

In case you're not aware, I'm Rosa, Club Rep for Tuesday nights. I wasn't well yesterday, so I didn't make it to the club, but I've been hearing some bad things about the experiences people had at the Sir Christopher Hatton last Tuesday night, and also some other people who seemed to have a great time, so I'd like to get as many views on the evening as I can.

What happened? Did they really turn us away without notice or explanation? How did people feel about how the bar staff explained the situation?

I'm not necessarily expecting people who've already spoken up on the main venue thread to repeat themselves, but I'd love to hear from the rest of you, and anyone who would like to add something to this thread as well is welcome. This is probably also a great opportunity for people to give their general views on sticking with this venue, although I'll be asking around in person next week too.

Thanks

Rosa

Hey Rosa.

Just so you're aware, it doesn't seem as though a lot of people know about this forum (several people said they had only just heard about it when I spoke to them on Tuesday), so it might be worth emailing all those you can to link them to this.

Speaking for our group the experience was bad enough that we won't be going back there, even if that means leaving DotH should it be decided that the Hatton is the new locale.

We weren't exactly turned away, but no provision was made for the groups as we all arrived. The upper bar was packed, so there was no room for anyone to set up inside, and as our group left everyone was outside. There was certainly no notice given, not even a printed sign on the doors to apologise and inform - we only got what little explanation we gained by waiting at the bar until the staff member in question came to serve us, at which point we were able to ask and were given the rude response I've mentioned in the other thread.

The previous week we also experienced staff who did not seem aware that there was meant to be anything going on, it was only after we spoke to them that the lower area was unlocked and made available for groups to set up in. The woman who was on was very nice, though her English was not great, which may have contributed to the difficulty, but it was still down to us as the first group to arrive to explain to the staff that the place was booked out and that people were expecting to have use of the lower bar area.

Returning to the most recent incident, more than anything else it was the attitude of the staff that made everything worse. I can understand that for whatever reason, they did not have the staff to open it up (though again, since this was a booked thing they should have made provision for that) but to be so dismissive of it was unacceptable behaviour. We were left with the choice of try to play outside alongside all the smokers, with breezes that would send any papers we had flying about, or to leave. We chose the latter, since we had a member's house we could use that night, but we ended up losing around half our session due to travelling and re-travelling.

Sorry for the rant (Rosa, you're used to this length of ramble from me anyway ;) )

- Sam
