Getting Started with LoRaWAN and Dragino LHT65s – Seeking Guidance

Hi All,

I’m new to the technical side of LoRaWAN and keen to familiarize myself with the system. I’ve recently purchased Dragino LHT65S sensors and am now looking to connect them to an existing gateway.

Could you please advise me on what key aspects I should keep in mind during setup? I’d also really appreciate any tips, best practices, or common pitfalls to watch out for as a beginner.

Thank you for reaching out! Setting up your LHT65S with an existing LoRaWAN gateway is a great way to get started with LoRaWAN. Below are the key steps and tips to ensure a smooth setup:

1. Key Setup Steps

a. Check Device & Gateway CompatibilityEnsure your gateway supports the same LoRaWAN frequency plan as the LHT65S (e.g., EU868/US915/AS923, depending on your region). 

b. Register the Device on a LoRaWAN Network Server (LNS)

If you’re using TTN (The Things Network), ChirpStack, or another LNS, follow these steps:

• Create a new device in your LNS.
• Enter the DevEUI, AppEUI, and AppKey (It can be found on the label on the inside of the LHT65S packaging box).
• Set the correct LoRaWAN version (typically 1.0.3 for LHT65S).

c. Activate LHT65S

By default, the LHT65S is in sleep mode when shipped. You can directly long press the ACT Button for more than 3 seconds to wake it up.

If all the registration information matches, the device should automatically join the network. If not, you may need to recheck and register (for details, please refer to the manual).

d. Verify Data Reception

Check your gateway’s logs or LNS dashboard to confirm the sensor is transmitting.
