Google Play services enables useful services on your device and helps make your device more secure and reliable. Security is one such service provided as part of Google Play services. Learn more about services enabled through Google Play services.
The Google Play services location APIs are preferred over the Android framework location APIs (android.location) as a way of adding location awareness to your app. If you are currently using the Android framework location APIs, you are strongly encouraged to switch to the Google Play services location APIs as soon as possible.
In addition to your question about the differences: the google play services framework provides you a "fused" location. With Android framework you should use GPS or Wif. You could specify a criteria but if you need the location user position, the google play services is the best choice. If you need a very precise position like GPS because for example your app is a navigator app, than it's better to use directly the GPS.
I use protonmail in my work phone. It used to work well, even though i have all of google's services disabled (including play store and google play services). But the app no longer works. It crashes as soon as I open it. If I enable google play services, it works fine. Is there a version of proton apk that doesn't require play services? Or is there a workaround? Seems a bit odd that a privacy-focussed app would require a mandatory app from google, which everyone knows doesn't care about privacy.
Edit: In a perfect world, all watches will instantaneously update to the latest play services, but that doesnt seem to be the case yet. This is also why I declared this as a workaround rather than a fix.
My watches (Samsung Gear S with Wear 1.5) had extremely old version of Google Play services after factory reset (same as yours: 8.7.01 - 534) and did not install any application after pairing. Manually updating play services solved that.
Google Play services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play.
This component provides core functionality like authentication to your Google services, synchronized contacts, access to all the latest user privacy settings, and higher quality, lower-powered location based services.
Google Play services also enhances your app experience. It speeds up offline searches, provides more immersive maps, and improves gaming experiences.
Apps may not work if you uninstall Google Play services.
While the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) provides common, device-level functionalities such as email and calling, GMS is not part of AOSP. GMS is only available through a license with Google and delivers a holistic set of popular apps and cloud-based services. Note that GMS apps can vary based on country availability and requirements.2
Okay, that means that each time you play around any app using those services, it s going to require your device to be awake and/or keep the device awake. For some time I have used the Privacy Guard to make a restriction for this behavior i.e. to stop the apps from keeping my phone awake, even though it's locked/asleep.
I've been having wakelock issues for the past week (OnePlus One) and today narrowed it down to googleplayservices. After some searching and reading, I went into Privacy Guard and turned permissions off for "Wake up" and "Keep Awake". My handset was again able to go to sleep after the set 15 seconds, but then that "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped" error started popping up every 3 seconds in an endless loop.
I assume that googleplayservices needs to keep checking for something and preventing it from keeping the phone awake was causing the error loop. Maddening, but I can say from experience that that looping error is far worse than having to manually turn off the screen!
If you disable play services most of your phone probably won't function properly anyway including the play store. How would you then install/update your apps? You would be trading some additional privacy against a whole lot less security.
Great app, love it (as it works on node red as well ). However, as it's paid, how would OP get it without the play store? Having said that both the HE mobile app and Pushover work great for me. In fact notifications come about a second faster on the HE app.
google services = significant privacy compromises. A lot of debates about whether this is important or not. However, there are a growing number of folks who have personal and societal concerns about it -- and want solutions that enable greater privacy and freedom from these platforms.
There are A LOT of apps that work just fine with MicroG and/or no services at all. Not certain why the Hubitat app doesn't play well with MicroG -- must have some dependencies on google-specific services hooks that other apps don't require. Would love to see the Hubitat team resolve this but understand they have limited resources and must focus on the ones that have the broadest impact for their users.
The Play services home module is optional, and thusMatter functionality will only be present on a user'sdevice if an app on the device specifies the appropriatePlay services module dependency in its AndroidManifest.xml file.
With Google Play Services, you can authenticate Google services, synchronize your contacts, access the latest user privacy settings, and use higher quality location-based services that use less energy.
6. In the Google Play Store, if you see "Install" at the top of the screen, tap that. If there's an update available, tap "Update" instead. If all you see is "Deactivate," then your Google Play services are already up to date.
TensorFlow Lite is available in Google Play services runtime for all Androiddevices running the current version of Play services. This runtime allows you torun machine learning (ML) models without statically bundling TensorFlow Litelibraries into your app.
With the Google Play services API, you can reduce the size of your apps and gainimproved performance from the latest stable version of the libraries. TensorFlowLite in Google Play services is the recommended way to use TensorFlow Lite onAndroid.
You can get started with the Play services runtime with theQuickstart, which provides a step-by-step guide toimplement a sample application. If you are already using stand-alone TensorFlowLite in your app, refer to theMigrating from stand-alone TensorFlow Lite section to update anexisting app to use the Play services runtime. For more information about GooglePlay services, see theGoogle Play serviceswebsite.
TensorFlow Lite in Google Play services is available through theTensorFlow Lite Task APIandTensorFlow Lite Interpreter API.The Task Library provides optimized out-of-box model interfaces for commonmachine learning tasks using visual, audio, and text data. The TensorFlow LiteInterpreter API, provided by the TensorFlow runtime and support libraries, provides a more general-purpose interface for building and running ML models.
The following sections provide instructions on how to implement the Interpreterand Task Library APIs in Google Play services. While it is possible for an appto use both the Interpreter APIs and Task Library APIs, most apps should onlyuse one set of APIs.
TensorFlow Lite allows you to accelerate the performance of your model usingspecialized hardware processors, such as graphics processing units (GPUs). Youcan take advantage of these specialized processors using hardware drivers calleddelegates. You canuse the following hardware acceleration delegates with TensorFlow Lite in GooglePlay services:
If you want to use stand-alone TensorFlow Lite and the Play services APIside-by-side, you must use TensorFlow Lite 2.9 (or later). TensorFlow Lite 2.8and earlier versions are not compatible with the Play services API version.
When you use TensorFlow Lite in Google Play services APIs, processing of theinput data, such as images, video, text, fully happens on-device, and TensorFlowLite in Google Play services APIs does not send that data to Google servers. Asa result, you can use our APIs for processing data that should not leave thedevice.
The TensorFlow Lite in Google Play services APIs may contact Google servers fromtime to time in order to receive things like bug fixes, updated models andhardware accelerator compatibility information. The TensorFlow Lite in GooglePlay services APIs also sends metrics about the performance and utilization ofthe APIs in your app to Google. Google uses this metrics data to measureperformance, debug, maintain and improve the APIs, and detect misuse or abuse,as further described in ourPrivacy Policy.
To cast screen using Google home to Google TV. I need everytime to clear cache and force stop Google Play services or needs to restart my Android mobile then only cast screen works otherwise it will never works for me.
For the money, most Android tablets aren't very smart buys. At the high end, hardware is marred by less than stellar software offerings. (If you're going to spend $500 on a tablet, get an iPad.) At the low end, Amazon's Android-powered Fire tablets are hamstrung by the very limited Amazon Appstore, which doesn't include Google apps, among others.
