Subject: National FP Summit- Update

Dear All

Two days National FP summit was concluded . More than 400 delegates both from Govt and DPs were present. This year theme was “ NEW CHOICE, NEW HORIZON”. As you know Bihar got award for highest Female Sterilisation in the country. Maharastra got 1st prize on Male sterilisation. Some of the highlights are as follows

1. New Contraceptive launched ( Injectable). Govt of India release a training manual for injectables. National ToT followed by State and District ToT will be initiated. State has been asked to include training cost in PIP. The procurement of injectables has been initiated.

2. Govt of India agreed in principle to include implant in the basket of choice. However DCGI approval is under process. similarly introduction of Vaginal ring and female condom will follow in the public sector FP services.

3. Govt of India release DVD on new communication strategies for FP. Mr Amitava Bachan become FP brand ambassador. I am carrying a copy of the DVD

4. Social franchisee scheme has been launched under JSK ( janasankha Stritata Kosh ). Every State will have master franchisee through which contraceptive will be rolled out at low cost. It will add to the quality of services specially in urban area where clients prefer wide choice with a price tag.

5. The high focus state like Bihar, Govt of India advice to engage retired providers to tide over the shortage of skill manpower. GoI will ready to support mobility of such providers. UP already started this initiatives.

6. Post abortion FP services is now focus for the Govt. A technical manual released in the meeting.

7. engagement of male in FP should be given priority which include Male sterilisation, decision making process, motivation, counselling etc.

8. Quality monitoring should be re-emphasis. Quarterly DQAC meeting should be in place. GoI wants DPs support to advocate for active DQAC in all Districts.

9. FP 2020 is now focus area. Govt is awaiting the track 20 report to assess the progress

10. Govt also release FAQ on Quality Assurance, reference manual on OCP ,ECP, Progesterone only pills (POPs) and Centchroman Pills.

All the manual are available in NRHM site. I am carrying one copy of the same. I am extremely thankful to Dr Hemant for approving my visit to the FP Summit. PPS team are requested to share the update with the field team as and when necessary
