Dear Team,

The standard operating procedures for  Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance have recently rolled out in the state for Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance in public facilities of Bihar. I am sharing them with all of you here on request from many members of Care.

Kindly go through the attached ppt to have first-hand understanding and decide our priority  on implementation of ppt in public facilities.

We expect that RTS will play the key role in their understanding and dissemination among service providers in District Hospitals first followed by other SDHs, RHs, CHCs and PHCs.

Feel free to call me for any concern and issues.

Reards,

Prabir.

Dear Prasant,

As you have required a general refrigeration policy for drugs, they are available in “Pharmacy & Stores Manual” section of SOP that I had shared with all of you before. You should go through them.

It is very important to follow the storage advice as recommended from the manufacturer that is written on wrapper of the ampules/vials/strips.

As, we are focussed on Maternal and Child Health drugs, every labour room is now equipped with own domestic refrigerator, where we can store the drugs like

(i) Inj Oxytocine, (ii) Inj Magnesium Sulphate, (iii) Tab Misoprostol, (iv) Inj Vitamin K1, etc at a temperature +2 to +8 degree Celsius.

Note:

*If you don’t have a separate domestic refrigerator for labour room, don’t store these drugs in Ice Line Refrigerator(ILR) along with Vaccines which are part of Cold Chain Storage System. Hope your labour rooms have a separate domestic refrigerator. If not, procure it now.

**The important thing is we need to defrost these domestic refrigerators at least once in every month.

I am sharing some literature here for your reading and awareness. Please read Page 13-15 for your technical understanding.

Regards,

Dr Prabir.

Subject: Re: Regarding refrigeration policy

Dear Dr Prashant & Dr Chandra kishor

I looked up storage guidelines for Magnesium Sulphate and it needs to be stored away from light at a temperature < 30 degrees. Since its very hot presently, storage in fridge may be required.

Oxytocin however needs to be definitely stored in the fridge at 2-8 degrees celsius.

PFA the reference document for Magnesium Sulphate & Oxytocin
