It appears the issue is that we're using the 'open' file dialog, which does
not allow
entering a non-existent file path in OS X (but it is confirmed to be
allowed in
Windows XP and Ubuntu 9.04). A solution would be to use the 'save', or a
custom file
dialog.

It's worth noting that this also appeared to affect Leopard and Snow
Leopard too.
