Effective February 26, 2026, DPC will no longer include the TAX_NUM field in API responses. This field is being removed from all data provided by the DPC API.

What this may mean for you

The removal of TAX_NUM means DPC will no longer surface tax identifier data associated with the provider of the service. This may include billing tax identifiers (such as a TIN or EIN) that were previously available via the ExplanationOfBenefit resource.

How you can prepare

For DPC users relying on the TAX_NUM field for uniquely identifying providers, our recommendation is to instead use the National Provider Identifier (NPI) moving forward.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reply to this thread!

Thanks,

The DPC API Team

After further review, we have determined that providers’ Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) will remain in the Explanation of Benefit (EOB) resource for DPC. We recognize this differs from prior communication and apologize for any confusion; please consider this the current guidance.
