Default Values setting in XML Mapping

I was just wondering what is the philosophy for not having default value setting in xml mapping for dozer ? I was thinking we can have this for primitive types and strings.

How do you see this working? If you dont want to map a field, and just provide a default, why not do this via the bean you are mapping directly?
