Why is this? Well, to put it simply, a motion graphic with a transparent background can easily be layered on top of other video elements and blended into the overall environment. This is extremely handy for things like graphic logos or individual visual effects elements like fire or rain. You can create each element separately, export them with a transparent background, and layer them into your final project.

With a transparent video background, only the object of focus has colored pixels, the rest of the pixels are colorless or transparent. This allows only the object of focus to be visible when layered on top of other videos.

Whoever is reading this, please note that the information here is no longer ideal. Apple has discontinued support for AVI files, but, if you're using After Effects on a Windows machine, the preset for "Lossless with Alpha" still renders as an AVI. That means someone working on a Mac won't be able to use the file.

Now, the best way to render with an alpha channel is to follow the instructions here: -and-export-an-after-effects-transparent-background/#.XkHTJCN7lh...

I have been saving the pictures for Web & Devices -- PNG-8, transparency is checked, as far as Matte goes, I've selected "none" .... however, when I upload the images into After Effects, they all have white backgrounds instead of being transparent! I have combed the archives and can't seem to figure out what my problem is. If I ticked transparency, shouldn't it be transparent??

No. AE doesn't do palette based transparency. The image is not really transparent, it's just one color being tagged as such that a rendering device (browsers for instance) will blend in teh background pixels in place of the color. It just doesn't go together with how AE works. As Rick said, you will have to use 24bit PNGs.

Video files with transparent backgrounds are fantastic! Not only can you add your own backgrounds to these particular video files, but you can also composite them into your video as effects. Creating a video with a transparent background is very simple, so jump into our step by step guide to creating After Effects Transparent Videos.

A video file with a transparent background is just that, a .mov file which contains your animation or effects, but has no background. This transparency allows you to overlay your After Effects compositions on to other footage, in any editing software that allows stackable layers.

To create a transparent layer, you first need to create your compositions. For this example, we are going to look at a simple title card with animated flourishes, but remember, you can create transparent layers from any animation that does not have a background.

Once you have set up your canvas and created your animation, you will need to use a specific method of exporting. To retain the transparent background, the video file needs to be a .mov, and can often take up quite a lot of hard drive space.

I keep running into this issue. I toggled my background to short the transparent, made sure I didn't have a solid and export it but it still comes up with black background on the video i export. I looked it up and only way I found around it is if i export it in render queue but no options for media encoder and doing as mp4. Please help!

I need to render Bloom effect while using a transparent background, I need to save PNG sequence with RGBA, when I do this, the Bloom effect is being removed by the transparency since it falls outside the geometry.

This is the effect I'm after but with transparent background.

This is what I'm getting out of the box when enabling transparent.
My question is: How can I keep the Bloom effect overlay while rendering with a transparent background?

I found a workaround with compositing:
1- Enable Bloom pass in View Layer before rendering

2- In Compositor, Add the Bloom pass to the Alpha of the image, use a ColorRamp node to control the bloom effect, and to convert it at the same time to black and white.

Check the original Alpha in the image above and compare to the next image with Bloom added via the ColorRamp node.

3- now we need to use the outcome as the new Alpha pass instead of the original one, for that, I used a Select Alpha node, linked the original image color pass to the color, the new alpha pass to the alpha.

You can see here how the bloom effect shows on the transparent background, now I can fiddle with the ColorRamp node to get the better result, but I find it easier to temporarily add a background in the compositor using an Alpha Over node, to see the results, then I can remove before final render. I also need to mention that I found it gives better results when I use "Ease" mode in the ColorRamp node, but this depends on the desired effect and the project at hand.

I understand that's the correct way to render a transparent background animation, but I'm still getting a black background, I've tried re-rendering several times but I'm still getting the same, am I missing something?

When I queue to render, I select lossless + alpha (I've also tried custom RGB + alpha) with quicktime selected and it renders a white background instead of transparent one. I had selected the white background, but transparency was toggled when I did the export, and so was the lossless + alpha.

There actually is no such thing as a "transparent" background in video. Instead what you have is either 3 channel video (red, green and blue value for each pixel) or 4 channel (red, green, blue and alpha values for each pixel).

I'm currently working on a title animation and used saber with a text layer as core type. Saber is applied to two different black solids. I set those solids to 'add' already, however, when I try to make the background transparent it stays black because of the sloids. I have no other backgrounds visible in any comp..

Step 4: You will get a popup after clicking on New Composition. In the popup, keep the width as 1920 px and height as 1080 px, which is standard. Keep duration as 5 seconds and background color as black. You can keep preset as custom. The frame rate can be 29.97 or 30, and keep the resolution as full.

With the steps mentioned above, it is possible to render a video with a background that is transparent in Adobe After Effects. With respect to animation and video, the files that can be imported and exported are Animated GIF (GIF), 3GPP (3GP, 3G2, AMC), Open Media Framework (OMF), DV, Video for Windows (AVI) and QuickTime (MOV).

Hey, I meant the plugin for Figma and yes, I mean a transparent background option for all the illustrations that are available. Now I can choose between white/black or any color, but transparent would be the best.

The first 6 digits are interpreted identically to the 6-digit notation. The last pair of digits, interpreted as a hexadecimal number, specifies the alpha channel of the color, where 00 represents a fully transparent color and ff represent a fully opaque color.

If you want "transparent", just set the last number to 0, regardless of the color. All of the following result in "transparent" even though the color part is set to 100% red, green and blue respectively:

Using the alpha channel, you can composite elements such as text, graphics, or video footage onto different backgrounds or layers. The transparent areas in the alpha channel allow the underlying layers to show through, creating a seamless blend between the various elements.

To create a transparent background in After Effects, you must first set up your composition. Consider the size of your composition and ensure it matches the dimensions of your final video project. If elements are animating on and off the screen, ensure the canvas size aligns with your desired output.

Creating videos with transparent backgrounds in After Effects opens up creative possibilities. Following the steps outlined in this guide, you can set up your composition, create layers and animations, adjust transparency settings, and export your video with a transparent background.

In this software tutorial you will learn how to manipulate images in Photoshop to remove the background and then bring that transparent background image into After Effects without loosing the transparency. The Photoshop section covers the use of the Magnetic Lasso tool and Quick Mask to remove a background. With the image adjusted, you will learn how to import your new image into After Effects with preserved transparency.

Showcase your style and boost brand identity by using transparent backgrounds. You can pop your newly isolated subjects, branding, logos, and more onto website headers, email signatures, ads, and more with ease.

Make a solid color background transparent with one click of this wand. Just click on any part of an image and all other pixels of the same color in the image will be selected. Then you can either mask or hide those areas.

Yes, you can use a script in Photoshop to make backgrounds transparent in bulk. Photoshop uses a scripting language called JavaScript that can automate many repetitive tasks and perform batch processing on multiple images.

Background & aims: Patients with non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) do not have celiac disease but their symptoms improve when they are placed on gluten-free diets. We investigated the specific effects of gluten after dietary reduction of fermentable, poorly absorbed, short-chain carbohydrates (fermentable, oligo-, di-, monosaccharides, and polyols [FODMAPs]) in subjects believed to have NCGS.

Keep in mind that your original file needs to have an alpha channel for the 'With Alpha' options. Choosing one of these options will not magically create a transparent background if the source file does not contain it.
