Our Annual Doyle Circle Block Party (Halloween-Style ;)

Hi All!!!

Happy {Almost} Fall!!!

I hope this finds you all doing well and enjoying your week ;)

I’m reaching out to you in hopes of changing our usual Sunday-Before-Halloween Annual Doyle Circle Block Party this year to the week before…. Sunday, October 22, please?
We have a bit of a conflict for the next weekend (October 29), so I would appreciate your flexibility with helping to make it work ;)
If it becomes too difficult for the majority, I’m happy to allow someone else to step into my shoes this time ;)

Thank you for even considering it for this year!

Finally, I wanted to ask what your thoughts are about a few slight changes (just to keep things fresh and fun for the kiddies ;)….

1) Enjoying our party near the Doyle Circle roundabout, instead of on our side of the circle?
(You know the wheels are turning in my head about decorating the huge tree/planter in the roundabout with a bunch of skeletons, don’t you? ;) ;)

2) Possibly collecting money from families (enough families have to contribute to be fair to everyone) to hire a cotton candy truck or ice cream truck (or some other cute set-up like that ;)?

3) I’m thinking of reaching out to a food truck (maybe a taco truck) if enough people would be interested (Hannah, I think you’ve hired something like this for Oasis’ party ;)?
I know that we would have to be conscientious of those who do not eat meat, and I’m happy to run any menus by you all first ;)

And one last note… I think that Diwali falls on Sunday, November 12, is that correct? If so, we wouldn’t have a conflict there…. whew ;) ;)

We are ok with all three options.  The timing works for us too. We all can cheap in prior to event if you have an estimate.

Cotton Candy M/C  is a cool idea .. 

Uncle Mike can help get the Bouncy house for Kids like previous years..

Thank you so much for thinking of creative things to do! Good with date and location. We have skeletons to contribute if you want to decorate around the big tree! 

My thoughts: 

1. If Mike is not going to sponsor the jump house, then I am all for all families to pitch in and pay for a jump house/face painting/etc ourselves. I know that a lot of the kids may be growing out of it, so welcome to suggestions that appeal to the tween/teen crowd (K-pop dance off, anyone?) 

2. I love the idea of a food truck, however, when I’ve planed these things for work, food trucks usually require a minimum $$ of sales order to show up. I think it’s easy to hit the minimum for large groups, but as our circle is smaller, it may mean that each family is committed to eating A LOT of tacos. It’ll be interesting to see what you find out. If there is a minimum and we don’t have enough interest to hit it, maybe we fall back to sandwiches and potluck? 

3. Are we going to do trunk or treat, or the scavenger hunt like last year?

Thanks for taking the lead on this, looking forward to it. New location sounds cool and I'm really glad it's not conflicting with Diwali so we get some more time for both. 

I liked your ideas, especially for the ice cream truck and taco truck with vegetarian options :)

Hi Renee,

On item 1, that's a good idea. I am not seeing as many young kids as in 2010 on Doyle. Some kind of Music to replace jump house/face painting will entertain all age kids :)

10/22 should work for us.  The taquero I have hired before is Dia De Los Tacos and they are about $20/person for 2 hour service.  They book up early.  Www.diadelostacoscatering.com.
