We take dogs from a 100 mile radius around us, many of which come from kill shelters. We get them well, treat them for heartworms and whatever else ails them, get them spayed, neutered vaccinated and socialized.
Our dogs are adopted out through volunteer adoption coordinators in the East Coast and Canada where we send 50 to 80 at a time. We place an average of 200-300 unwanted South Texas pets each month into wonderful homes in the East Coast, Canada, as well as a few in the Woodlands. Their applications are very strict, long, and verified, so that all the animals are placed in wonderful, loving, forever homes.
Main Line Animal Rescue receives no federal, state or local funding and relies exclusively on the generosity of people like you. By donating, volunteering or adopting, you can take action that helps turn an animal in need into a loving family member. To help promote small animal adoptions, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington and the Fairfax County Animal Shelter are hosting adoption events this Sunday, June 26. Adoption fees at both shelters will be waived for all small animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, rats, hamsters, small birds, ferrets, and other small animals. Normal adoption process and requirements apply.

To achieve this, we encourage shelters, sanctuaries and other animal welfare organizations, veterinary clinics, animal groups, animal-related businesses and individuals who love animals to organize Reiki events in celebration of World Animal Reiki Day.
In addition to larger, organized events, celebrating can also be as simple as lighting a candle to honor your animal teachers, sitting in silent Reiki meditation with your animals, or doing a compassionate act for your local shelter or sanctuary.

February 5 was the birthday of SARA President Kathleen Prasad's first Animal Reiki teacher, Dakota. An Australian shepherd mix, Dakota was rescued from Sacramento Animal Control as a puppy and spent over sixteen years by Kathleen's side. In addition to awakening Kathleen to the benefits of Reiki for animals, Dakota inspired Kathleen to create the Shelter Animal Reiki Association (SARA). This weekend, Mundi, a 41-year-old female African savannah elephant, has safely been transported to the Elephant Refuge North America sanctuary (ERNA) in Attapulgus, Georgia, US. Mundi has been rescued from Mayaguez Zoo in Puerto Rico, that was ordered to shut down due to numerous failures to meet required animal welfare standards.
World Animal Protection is working to end the exploitation of wild animals for entertainment. Hundreds of thousands of wild animals are currently forced into captivity because of the global tourism industry. Animals, like Mundi, live their whole lives away from their natural habitats, subjected to daily abuse and made to perform. This is why we must make this the last generation of wild animals suffering for profit.
The city announced in October that it had abandoned its plan to renovate its existing shelter at 3031 N. Erie Ave and would instead build a new facility on 3.5 acres of city-owned land at 36th Street North and Pawnee Drive, just south of the zoo.
The 24,125-square-foot facility is expected to include clinic space, a surgery center, isolation rooms, an adoption area, office space, an outdoor space for animals, and more than 500 cages for cats, dogs, exotic animals and recovering animals.

I have been adopted out once (it only lasted a night), but I was returned due to not liking the cat in home. I do in fact do great with other dogs! I love bath time and being brushed out. Of all the many sub-cultures in the vast and diverse pet and animal world, none has interested me more or for a longer time than the dog and animal rescue world, a culture that did not exist a mere generation ago, and that now spans the world, involves tens of thousands of people (no one knows exactly how man) all over the country and much of the world.
Once, and not too long ago, dogs lived outside of the emotional world of people, sleeping in basements and garages, eating table scraps, running loose to break open garbage cans, assault mailmen and milkmen, they pooped where ever they wished, and have sex at will.
For all the good work they do, I wish some of the rescue-spawned ideas were better thought out. There are millions of dogs now living in shelters, many seriously ill or with no real hope of adoption. This generosity is accorded very few human beings in this world. Should we never euthanize dogs for any reason, and at any cost, in a country with so many vulnerable people?
Why are we do drawn to rescuing animals and finding homes for them when hundreds of thousands of our fellow humans live on the streets. Why do we need dogs to support our emotional lives rather than people?

7 years ago, a breeder of Chinese Cresteds brought a brand-new pup to animal control in Tucson for euthanasia. The little guy had unfortunately been born with two deformed hind legs. It appeared he would never walk, let alone crawl and fight for his existence. One of our kind volunteers from Saving Animals from Euthanasia happened to be there and saw this little fellow. He knew that this pup might have a chance at finding a good home and a fairly normal life with the support of our rescue group. He brought him home with the other rescues that day.
