Like jonnypuma it's pretty much a deal breaker for me not to be able to have subfolders in the asset folder. It also seems you cannot change the asset name once unloaded or even use tags as a way of sorting. And yes, once you have even a modest number of images in the library it's not loading thumbnails fast enough to be able to look through them quickly. I'll put in a feature request but will be having to get my 14 day trial refund if there isn't a reasonable prospect of this quickly I'm afraid.
When adding an image or video to your site, choose Select from library or Search Images. This opens the My Library tab which shows images and videos you've uploaded to your site, and any free and licensed stock images you've used. You can also select new stock images from the other tabs in this window.
The Asset library panel in the Home menu shows images and videos you've uploaded to your site and any free and licensed stock images you've used. You can also view the amount of video storage left for your account.
To view details for each asset or preview a video, hover over the image or video, click the three dots, then click File Details. These details include File Name, Type, Date added, Dimensions, Duration, and Size.
You can now reuse your imported images when you're logged into your site on a computer. You can also directly upload images from the app to an image block on the computer. It's not possible to upload videos to the Asset library using the Squarespace app.
After they're created, folders appear at the top of your Asset library. By default, they'll display in the order they're created, but you can use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to sort your folders alphabetically by name or by most recent changes.
After we remove an asset from your site, a broken file icon or a blank space may appear where the image or video used to appear. To remove the icon or blank space, follow the same procedure you normally would to delete content from your site.
When you delete an image or video, it's sent to the trash, where it'll be permanently deleted after 30 days. To delete assets before then, empty the trash. After you empty the trash, the content can't be restored.
To purchase more licenses, find the Getty Image in the Asset library, hover over the image or video, click the three dots, then click File Details. Follow the link to view the licensing options.
Hello! I am currently building out an updated website for a client who is migrating from 7.0 to 7.1. This involves the transfer of several image and video galleries. While the image files and embedded videos streamed from youtube etc. are no problem, it does not seem possible to download video/mp4 files from the asset library/current website. It will save a lot of time for my client if I can access these video files directly. Does anybody know if I'm missing something or is there a workaround for this? Many thanks.
Thanks for your input Ziggy! You're right - I was onto SS support and they confirmed that you can't download videos from the asset library and the original files must be found elsewhere... Will see if I can find a solution through a Chrome extension though!
Hello, no I'm afraid I didn't find a solution for this... Hopefully the Squarespace team develop the asset library features in future. I am finding the folders for image organisation very useful in the meantime!
I cannot find a stand alone link to access the image library of my old artwork I have uploaded. I want to delete old images and replace them with updated ones. The only way I can look at the stored images now is by creating a gallery and then adding new images. It doesn't let me access the old ones and permanently delete them. Does anyone know how to do this?
This is horrible. I cannot believe there isn't a library we can access and do full scale add/deletes. Especially since we can't add multiple images to a library at one time - please fix both of these issues!
7.0 and 7.1 The easiet thing to do is create a blank page in the unlinked section of your site. It doesn't have to be enabled. Create an image block on that page and then click add an image, select from library. At that point you can select any image by checking the small white box up in the left corner. Delete or add (that puts the image in the image block) can be chosen. Its a bit primitive but images can now be deleted out of your library.
I wanted to share a quick update that you can now select/delete/upload multiple images at the same time from your site's library. I understand the inability to do this was a pain-point so I hope this improvement helps out.
Just ceate a blank page in the unlinked section of your site and add an image block to it, then you have complete access to your image library. You can add an image or delete any of them from there. It's not as simple as one button access inside the config menu but once there you do have control over it.
I was able to do as you suggested - find the image, rename it & add alt text. It saved OK on my test page, but didn't appear to save back to the library. Anyway rookie error on my part - my lovely website builder had told me about naming images but I was so busy changing I thought "I'll do that later". Bugger!! haha
Back during their huge update release in September, Squarespace made mention that the Asset Library was going to receive new features that allow you to make folders and sort out your images and assets you've uploaded to your site.
Well, for the past week or so now I've been seeing the asset library highlighted on the left while in my page editor with the word 'New!' beside it, but upon clicking on it, I've found absolutely no new features or functionality behind it.
That's it. All said and done, it's a pretty simple and straightforward process. I went through a lot of different WordPress plugins in an attempt to rehost the external links to the local wp-content folder, export the media library by post, etc. This ended up being much faster and much simpler. Hope it saves you some time.
If you plan to import your Squarespace content into a self-hosted WordPress site using a WordPress Importer, your images may not migrate with the rest of your content. Instead, WordPress may only pull the referenced links (or the URLs) for the images, so when you deactivate your Squarespace site, the image links also deactivate, and the images disappear. There are some workarounds, but the exact methods really depend on the size of your media library (i.e. 10 images or 100,000 images).
