The Portrait Pro plugin doesn't get installed, since it couldn't find a Photoshop version on my Mac. When I take the Portrait Pro Studio App and reveal the content it does show plugins but not the actual plugin file.

I have never understood what exactly "Unknown" is supposed to signify but the status of quite a few plugins that work are listed as "Unknown," yet that does not, as you have seen, mean they won't work. So for instance, i have the old Google NIk Collection & Filter Forge 8 plugins installed on my Mac, & the status of almost all of them are listed as "Unknown," but they all work to one extent or another.

Might be an idea to ask the question of Anthropic's Portrait Pro Studio and Affinity Photo, I know they have probably answered the question in a generic way, considering any app that can use a photoshop plugin, but with the amount of users Affinity has it wouldn't hurt for them to create a install for Affinity Photo.

Mac I can get it installed because I have photoshop and Affinity is linked to the PS Plugin folder but Anthropic PortraitPro crashed Affinity Photo on Monterey. I had to run the PortraitPro app first.

"Follow the instructions in Affinity to browse to a folder that contains plugin files.PortraitPro 19 will usually install them to these locations:C:\Program Files\PortraitPro Studio Max 19OrC:\Program Files\PortraitPro Studio 19Restart Affinity and PP19 should be available in the Filter menu."

You can always explore the folder, subfolder and files in E:/PortraitPro but if the 8bf file isn't in there maybe a reinstall is required and read each step of the install carefully to see if it mentions plugin files and locations.

I have been back and forth with PortraitPro for a couple of weeks now without a resolution, and my service professional has gone quiet. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plug-in several times, and manually installed the launch command in the PS plug-in folder. Has anyone else run into this issue that has a resolution?

If Daniel's assumption is true, you should be able to launch PPS with an earlier version of Photoshop. You can install any version down to CS6 if needed. I do not suggest to use an older Ps, but to test the plug-in with a configuration you knew that was working recently on your system.

I can't get the most recent version of Portrait Pro to operate with the Photoshop plugin. Works fine as a stand alone. Looking at the plugin folder you can see that the plugin has been installed, Photoshop just won't open it.

Justaddwata,

In my correspondence with them I indicated that I had installed the s/w on only one PC. If you read their response to me, they indicate that I installed it on two and that I'm attempting a third installation. I did not use the word 'theives,' but it seems that is what they accuse me of.

On the internet there are many hack programs that make money by making users pay them to be activated; this program is functioning EXACTLY like one of those scam programs. I hope others do not have my experience, but in case there are others, this thread will serve to advise them they are not alone. My Flickr My Fotki My YouTube MY GEAR, Gear I want, & Sold Gear

Mistabernie,

It's most likely related to Windows Updates or IE updates since the program does a verification at each start. I haven't upgraded anything other than my printer; this PC is less than six months old and there's really nothing to upgrade to yet.

I used to upgrade every two or at most three months piece by piece until about 8 years ago and since then I just replace all of our computers on two year cycles. The main reason I stopped upgrading was the cost of OS and SW coupled with the fact that Dell could finally build cheaper than I could upgrade and preinstall the best OS while still staying under my costs.

Windows OEM does a CMOS check to verify installation hasn't changed. Ideally CMOS will only change if there's a major component change; HD, memory, CPU. If it's Dell licensed the CMOS will also be checking for Dell specific info within CMOS; if it fails to find that info, the installation will fail or if already installed the OS will simply cease functioning. My Flickr My Fotki My YouTube MY GEAR, Gear I want, & Sold Gear

PortraitPro comes in three versions: Standard ($44.95), Studio ($69.95), and Studio Max ($139.95). The Standard version is limited to JPG and 24-bit TIFF files, lacks batch editing, and does not integrate with editing software. The Studio version lets you work with raw or 48-bit files and has a basic batch dialog. Studio Max has full batch mode for the greatest efficiency. Both Studio and Studio Max integrate with Photoshop, Lightroom, and Aperture. A free trial is available at portraitprofessional.com.

Good review. One point Iwould like to add is the fact that the licensing system behind the software to protect it agianst illegal copies is the worst. I am working with Portrait pro from version 10, and now two full versions further they still did not fix this problem. Changing wifi network, or installing some small operating software can disable the installed license. In that case you have to contact Anthropics helpdesk begging to release the license, because it does not allow you to reactivate the license. I have lost valuable time and money sitting behind a computer with a broken license and a deadline for delivering pictures. At the moment I write this, my license again has been blokked and even the workaround the helpdesk gave me in the past is not working anymore. Big shame for such a nice product with lots of potential.

While investigating the other options in the Settings, I came across the GPU tab. It turns out that in order to use the power of your video card GPU, you need to click on a link to download and install a GPU support pack from Anthropics. After I did this on my Windows 10 machine with a late-model NVIDIA card, PortraitPro crashed. I needed to reinstall the program. Proceed with care if you choose to try this.
