You can also access all your Kindle highlights and Notes online through your web browser or mobile app at any time. Just head to read.amazon.com/notebook and all your snippets can get accessed in your very own online Kindle notebook.

The issue I have is with my kindle, my highlights are on the clippings which is a total mess since it will mix up all highlights from different books into one and since the highlights start with "-Your highlight from page 85, 16th of september from this book x etc etc" it's not convenient to copy it and put it elsewhere either, its just horrible.

(a) auto-replace a book that has been previously synced before and had new highlights? this could result in data loss if that file has been modified
(b) should the plugin skip any books that have synced at least once before? that is the current behaviour. But it means you will not get your latest highlights without deleting your last file.
should the plugin attempt to concatenate any new highlights at the end of the file? This could result in highlights being unordered

Until your post, I was unaware you could add notes to bookmarks on Audible. And they do not appear to offer an interface to extract the notes, at least in the UI. And it is a tenuous thing to rely upon screen scrapes for interfaces. Gonna keep eyeballs on this thread. Cheers!

Hello - I'm doing a PhD and am keen to read PDF papers on my kindle, making notes and highlights. It's a shame Amazon have chosen to make this feel like a far-fetched request - but is it possible so in anyway get notes/highlights off of a kindle and back into a PDF format (that would be compatible with something like Mendeley)?

Hi, i've been reading a book and highliting a lot of stuff but yesterday when i tried to search one of those highlights in the "Notes and highlights" menu they were gone, like if I've never highlighted them. I already tried restarting the device but it didn't work, also i pressed the sync button. I googled it and i saw that this problem isn't happening just to me, but i didn't fine any solution.

I just got a plugin working that pulls Kindle highlights from the My Clippings.txt file. I submitted it to the marketplace this morning, but if you know how to manually load plugins the project is here: -plugin-my-highlights

You can use a web extension called Snippet (www.gosnippet.com) that give you the possibility to synchronize all Kindle highlights and notes from books or saved on My Clippings.txt on a private online account. There you can edit, search, add photos, share on Facebook or Twitter.

Finally, just a few days ago, on September 15, 2022, the Kindle books and notes got a common landing page, which for unregistered users looks like the screenshot below and is available at read.amazon.com/landing.

I read a lot of books on the kindle app on my ipad and take notes in evernote. It's pretty clunky as it involves app switching and you can't copy/paste from kindle/ibooks due to DRM. If you highlight and/or make notes in the kindle app these are available if you log in to your amazon account through a web browser. Has anyone found a way to automatically sync these highights and notes to evernote? I see a lot of talk about manual solutions but nothing automatic.

It drives me crazy so I'm considering building a solution (I'm a developer) that allows me to stay productive with hasslefree access to my notes and highlights, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel if there's already something out there.

Please, please, please do this. As a grad student who's started using Kindle for IPad for reading/highlighting any app (either stand alone or an applet to interface with Kindle/EN) that does allows me to export them from Kindle to EN in bulk would be amazing and certainly something I'd pay to have. If it could differentiate between highlights of different colors (either by allowing them to be exported seperately, or brought into EN in different notes, or just brought in in different colored highlights, would also be greatly appreciated.

Today we live in the age of search where entire documents can be searched in a second. However, we still want a level of curation. Searching every book, we have in our digital library is going to create a lot of false positive results and just like my Google search, finding the exact information we want may prove to be time consuming. So, when we read, we should take the time to highlight and make notes on the most valuable bits of information. One system is to highlight main points in yellow and secondary points in green or blue. Kindle has four highlighter options, so I dedicate the third colour to definitions and the fourth to quotes.

There are several easy options to export your notes and highlights out of Kindle and into another system. Open the notes in Kindle Cloud reader and print to OneNote or PDF. You can then import the notes into your notetaking system. My preference is to export my notes using the Kindle PC app. This process takes a little longer, but I prefer it because the export includes important information such as what chapter and section the note or highlight was recorded in.

Note that by default the script imports notes from the kindle.amazon.com/your_highlights web pages (which have the richest set of data fields, and allow for the creation of some useful hyperlinks in the DT records - jumping, for example, to the relevant passage in the OS X Kindle app).
The script will, however, also offer to import notes from the My Clipping.txt file on a Kindle device, or from any text file which uses the same format.

(Ver 0.25 allows for clippings files which are delimited by 0d0a, and no longer chokes on unusual text patterns in title/author lines. It also filters out bookmarks, and, in the Kindle notes web-page parser, bypasses what appears to be a new source-saving bug in Safari.)

This looks wonderfully helpful. I successfully imported the annotations/notes from a first book. But when I ran the script on the highlights page for a second book, I ended up with a new group that contains the annotations from both the second and the first book. Am I doing something wrong.

So just to summarise my question.I'm looking for a way to access Kindle Highlights & Notes from my kindle account directly to my app both in iOS and Android.

From the examples above, I know its possible but not sure how to go about implementing it.

There's also a growing number of authors that publish some version of their book notes online. For example, Derek Sivers posts hundreds of book summaries with ratings from 1 to 10 on his personal website. Taylor Pearson does something similar on his website, but instead of rating each book, he organizes them by categories such as psychology, self-help, and history.

First, you must import all your notes and highlights into Readwise. (Readwise supports an ever-increasing number of highlight sources including Amazon Kindle, Apple iBooks, Instapaper, Highly, Medium articles, audiobooks, and more.)

Then you'll then follow the prompts to configure your desired settings. For example, you can export your notes and highlights from all your books or you can select specific titles. You can also tell Readwise whether to include or exclude the highlight locations as part of the export, and whether to automatically or manually export new highlights to your Evernote account moving forward.

Another powerful use case is to connect your Readwise Evernote notebook with project management software using an automation tool like Zapier or IFTTT. These links enables you to send your book notes to hundreds of other apps such as a Trello Card or an Asana to-do list item.

I tried manually synching, but that just seems to push the furthest read page rather than notes and bookmarks. I tried all the combinations you can imagine in terms of the order in which I open the app on the two devices. No success.

You may already be aware that you can revisit all your Kindle highlights and notes on the website Although having your highlights synced to Amazon is convenient, I personally prefer to store my data in a single location.

I hope you like this feature of Web Highlights. In my eyes it offers a perfect solution for exporting your research and learnings from books into a single tool. Moreover, the spaced repetition learning feature is another valuable aspect, allowing you to recall your highlights and prevent forgetting important information. Amazingly useful plugins keep getting made for Obsidian. Plugins that help reduce friction to getting my material from other sources into flat markdown files that I then can edit, rework and do with as I see fit. Earlier I mentioned the Zotero plugins to extract PDF highlights and Zotero links into Obsidian. Today I started using the Kindle highlights plugin. It connects either to your Amazon account or you feed it your myclippings.txt file from your Kindle device.

It then pulls in your highlights into one note file for each book. You can edit the template for that note, to make sure it includes the information and metadata you want. Each highlight has a link directly to the highlight in your book, and when I click it opens my Kindle app on my Mac and jumps right to it.
