Bill Chamberlain is out due to death in family. We asked that group wait til May til Bob Doherty is back from China (he should really be there as it is his district and he is strongest advocate) and progress is made so we can note such.

Morning All,

As you may know representatives for the Downtown Playground Initiative will be at City Hall tonight to urge the City to build a new Downtown Play Area.

Do you know if any progress has been made on (re)building a small playground/play area in Barker Park for Downtown Children?? I know the City is behind Barker Park and I  had suggested that the City have Parks Commissioner Rogers meet with ours group to discuss it. Has this happened??

Perhaps Commissioner Rogers can do a proposed design for it and just build it.  The kids need something and this can be done easily and most importantly quickly.  The play area space is appx. 60' by 60' and a perfect spot.

Thanks for your reply.

best

richard

Dear Troy PGs Advocates,
Attached is the revised summary of our Spring 2012 meetings that may help you with advocating for Downtown Troy Playgrounds.
I will bring some copies with me to the City Council meeting tomorrow also.
Also please see the attached flyer about upcoming events and contacts for the Downtown Troy Playgrounds Initiative.
Thank you everyone for your contributions of ideas, time and talent!
We should set another meeting for May to discuss what directions and next steps this group or network want to take.
We also will need to take some time to collect together, copy and process petitions.
Peace,
Nora McDowell

Hi Lynn,

Not all of us can come on May 3, nor can all of us come tonight.  We plan to come to both council meetings; we will not unduly waste the council's time with the same speakers and statements and presentations at both meetings, but this will allow all of us to participate.

I hope that there will be progress by the May meeting, and that this can be noted, but there is not much point in asking for what has already been granted.  One of the things I plan to request tonight is not just that the city do something quickly, as Richard Herrick suggested, but more importantly that the city communicate with us about their plans, so that we can coordinate our efforts, e.g. to raise funds for additional equipment.  Richard suggested a meeting with Commissioner Rogers and I think we would be able to "come to him" (and or Director Chamberlain) for even a short discussion of the city's plans for Barker Park.
