So, are we going to this week's city council meeting, too?
It's coming up on us...

I spoke to Lynn Kopka last week. It seems like George Rogers and Bill Chamberlain don't want to meet with us. Their attitude is, "Why do these people want to see the equipment?" So, I think we need to apply pressure and figure out how to directly contact them rather than going through Lynn. Anyone know how to reach them?

Sounds like that's happening in multiple departments.

I am looking for a copy of the 2011 Annual Water Report. I've called and left messages for the head of the water department (Neal Bonesteel) and the next in line - Chris Whelan. No response at all. CDC recommendations for fluoride changed in 2011 (old recommendations were 0.8-1.2 mg/L, now the CDC and Health and Human Services (HHS) has recognized that 0.7mg/L is a safe and appropriate level). I want to know whether Troy has adjusted their fluoride levels to meet current recommendations.

So...

Erika/all-

I've been in contact with the Friends of Barker Park and they can meet on Sunday May 13th in Barker Park.  They have some ideas and would like to discuss the possibility of coordinating efforts.  I know Sunday may be hard for some people but I don't think we'll find an ideal time for everyone.  We could meet around 9 or maybe later in the afternoon.  I'll firm up a time and recirculate to everyone.  Thanks for speaking to Lynn....that explains why she never responded to my question about meeting with them.  My hunch is the the equipment is probably not in great shape.  Let's see what the "Friends" say and go from there.

I just ran into Lynn Kopka and the latest update is that the benches are going back in this week (today?) and that rather than show us the equipment in pieces in a warehouse, they will tell us where the same equipment is installed elsewhere and we can see it there.

If we will be presenting our petitions on Thursday night, we need to collect the paper ones and print the online ones, collate them and count the signatures (and make sure we have a copy/scan of it all). I have a function to attend from 5:30-7 on Thursday so would have to do it tonight or tomorrow during the day. I think Nora has the paper originals - did anybody print out the online ones?

I also heard during Troy Night Out last week that Riverfront Park work is ahead of schedule and the city wants a ribbon cutting on July 15 for the Pig Out.

Thanks for the information Alex.  I just heard back from The Friends and Alane Hohenberg and David Kropp will meet us in Barker Park on Sunday, May 13th at 9 am to discuss possibilities for the Barker Park site.  One of the other Friends has ideas for other foundations that we may be able to leverage in terms of getting funding if we go the route of buying new equipment.  David has a book of playground equipment that we can look through.

If someone relays the location of the playgrounds where the other equipment is I can go and take pictures in preparation for our meeting.

Then we can discuss next steps...

Let me know who can be there on Sunday the 13th.

Regards,

Tracy

I can't make the Sunday meeting with the Friends; maybe tonight's city council meeting... Anyone else able to go tonight? What would we ask for? Same thing? A dialogue with Bill Chamberlain and George Rogers?

What's next? That meeting with the Friends of Barker Park and some field trips to look at other playground equipment already in Troy?

While I don't have the time to commit to helping all the time, I will do so as I'm able.
Glad to know others can move this project forward.

Thank you to Tracy, Alex, and Nora for getting us up and going.
