Subject: Children's Park - Barker
Erika and Nora,
My last information about the Children's Park was that Barker was go, City Station would be open to all and the second phase of Riverfront would consider inclusion of a Children's Park. I enjoyed attending the first meeting and have been away or unavailable for the two subsequent meetings. At that meeting I had provided brochure of equipment and conveyed a conversation with George Rogers, Troy Parks Supervisor in which he told me he can install a Children's Park, if given the "go ahead".
I gave the above information at last Thursday's meeting of Unity's meeting of Concerned Downtown Citizens. Elizabeth Young let us know that the Children's Pard at City Station will, unfortunately, not be accessible to residents, other than tenants.
Today, I met with Deputy Mayor, Perter Ryan about the Children's Park issue. We also went and inspected available equipment and met with George Rogers. I liked the equipment available. It is the type installed in the Children's Park next to the ice Rink in Knickerbocker Park. Swing sets. slides, and a climbing station with a roof are available. George said he could install it "in days".
Before installation, I suggest your look at the equipment and agree with going forward. Should you want different equipment, possibly independent funds would need to considered. If that is the case, the City would need the right of turndown if they considered the equipment a safety or liability challenge or independent liability insurance purchased. Let's see what a manufacturer may provide.
Unfortunately, I'm unavailable until next Monday, but could arrange an inspection. Deputy Mayor, Peter Ryan could possibly do that this week if that is your preference. His number is 279-7159. MY number is either 368-7092 or 326-8451.
I also think that Elizabeth Young is in a good position to see if City Station could be accessible to the public for person's accompanying children under 12 years of age. Board members of BID may be in a terrific position to influence or remove that restriction
Regards, Bob Doherty, Councilman District 4

Hi All--Wanted to let you know that I'm so enthused about working on this if
you want me or need me. There will be fundraising involved to get the
result that, I believe, is wanted/needed. There are foundations that could
be approached once the playground group has put a price tag on what they
want and I would be happy to research these possibilities for you. Tracy
Kennedy, Dave Kropp and I are going to meet at Barker Park on Sunday morning
at 9:00, May 13, if anyone wants to join us for this walk through. Alane
