Bloomin’ Downtown – Visitors will be invited to come downtown and shop as the Lafayette-West Lafayette merchants and restaurants host open houses offering spring shopping specials during Spring Days Downtown on April 23-24. Many businesses will be extending their hours to attract customers from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Friday and 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. CityBus will operate the free Wabash Trolley from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. - 4:55 p.m. on Saturday. Greater Lafayette Commerce will sponsor free carriage rides provided by Moore Carriage Rides on Friday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Rides will be boarding at 5th and Main Streets and also at 11th and Main Streets. A mini Farmers’ Market will be held from 8:00 – 12:00 noon Saturday morning. Items offered for sale from vendors will include: kettle corn, honey, jewelry, jellies, and Spring craft items. More news will follow about the Friends of Downtown’s Tricycle event to be held on Saturday as well.
Welcome Spring – Welcome Fresh and Local at the Lafayette Farmers’ Market! Plans are being made for this year’s Lafayette Farmers’ Market which runs from May through October. This year’s Market will be on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on 5th Street between Main and Columbia Streets and on Thursdays from 3:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Purdue University Campus in the Dauch Alumni Center Parking Lot located at 403 W. Wood Street in West Lafayette. Special events planned for this year’s Market include: Opening Day – May 1, Swing into Spring – May 29, Purdue Day at the Market – August 21, and HarvestFest – October 9. Mini-Markets planned for out-of-season include Pre-Easter Market – April 3, Spring Market – April 24, Holiday Market – November 13, Pre-Thanksgiving Market – November 20, and Dickens Market – December 4. The Market Vendor Contract as well as information, as it becomes available, can be found on the Market website: www.lafayettefarmersmarket.com. The Sagamore West Farmers’ Market is making plans for their market to be held at Cumberland Park on Wednesdays between 3:00 – 6:30 p.m. from May 5 through October 27. Schallert Destination Boot Camps March 16-18, June 15-17 and September 21-23 - The Downtown Development Council of Greater Lafayette Commerce is looking for 6 downtown businesses that would like to learn the key elements of making your business a Destination Business. The Destination Boot Camp is a 2 ½ day program hosted by Jon Schallert in Longmont, CO and is part of the Community Reinvention Program. The Boot Camp is followed up by 6 months of support calls, a business visit by Jon, newsletters and webinars. To find the latest information and to be part of the marketing of downtown, please plan to attend the monthly Downtown Task Force Stakeholder meetings. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 11 at Spurlock’s West. Social half hour will be from 6-6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Information regarding the meetings can be found under Downtown Task Force on Google Groups. Also, businesses are encouraged to take advantage of www.lafcal.com to post their events, etc.
