Tour on Earth Day next week!
Dear Fruit and Nut enthusiasts --
Please come celebrate Earth Day and learn together at UW-Madison next Thursday, April 22! Madison Fruits and Nuts volunteers have a wonderful day planned with a focus on fruit, public produce and urban agriculture.
All the details are below and in the attached flyer. Earth Day will kick off with a morning presentation on urban fruit for city staff and the mayor. Then we'll take a bike tour of UW-Madison campus to see four campus gardens that feature vegetables and fruit. There will be an array of great hands-on workshops in the afternoon, an evening panel discussion with local urban agriculture stars, and then a tour Friday of farms in and around Madison. Our special out-of-town guest is Ashley Atkinson, who leads the Greening of Detroit, a group that has planted thousands of fruit trees in their city. We're bringing Ashley to take part in an Earth Day conference at the Nelson Institute at UW-Madison, and she's staying for these community workshops on Earth Day.
Thanks to all who have helped plan, and especially to FH King Students of Sustainable Agriculture, Eagle Heights Garden, and Shelly Strom who made the beautiful publicity poster. Please print and share the poster to help us spread the word!
Happy Spring and hope we see you next Thursday,
Janet Parker for Madison Fruits and Nuts
