Hi community garden supporter,

A quick reminder about the Central Park public meeting tomorrow evening – we hope you can make it! Apologies for any cross postings.

The Central Park planning process will soon be completed, and the public meeting this next week may be the last time you can share your support for community gardens and edible landscaping as well as your feedback and thoughts on the plan, so it’s very important that we get a lot of people out for this meeting. Please attend the Central Park public meeting on Wednesday, March 30, 6-8pm at Research Products Lab, 130 S. Ingersoll Street (corner of Ingersoll and Main, enter from the parking lot on E. Main).

A current plan for the park is attached, and shows the small area proposed for community gardens. This area (due to shading and driveway access issues) will probably be only about 1/8 of an acre. To accommodate the overflow alone for the only two official community gardens on the isthmus (Reynolds and Atwood), we’d need 1.5 acres (for a 20’x20’ plot per household). With the recent acquisition of Research Products’ land for the park, there may be more space available for community gardens, and there are ways to overcome soil concerns (remediation or bringing in soil).

It’s important to get as many people as possible out to this public meeting next Wednesday evening. Even if you don’t plan on gardening in Central Park, please attend the meeting in support of community gardens on the Isthmus, where there are very few community gardens currently. Please attend the meeting on Wednesday, and if you can’t make it, please share your thoughts with the Central Park Task Force in advance (roster: http://www.cityofmadison.com/mayor/myCommit/roster/500455.cfm).

Please share this invitation with others, especially if you are a garden leader, and thank you for your support of community gardens and edible landscaping!

Best,

Nicole
