Hi all,

We hope you can join us for the 9th Annual Community Action Coalition Community Gardens Bike Tour this Saturday, August 27, 9am-1pm! A flyer for the tour is attached, and more information is below. We’re excited to have Mayor Paul Soglin joining us for this family-friendly bike tour of four west-side community gardens, and it looks like it will be a beautiful day for a bike ride.

For anyone who might be in need of a bike this Saturday for the gardens bike tour, Madison B-cycle is offering free 24-hour memberships this weekend. Please see the email below for more information.

Best,

Nicole

9th Annual CAC Community Gardens Bike Tour

Join Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin, Inc. and Madison Mayor Paul Soglin for a family-friendly bike tour of community gardens on Saturday, August 27, 9am-1pm. We will ride the 10-mile tour at a leisurely pace, with garden visits and kids’ activities between 20-30 minute bike rides. Accompany us to learn about Madison’s unique and diverse community gardens and meet the gardeners who tend them. We will meet at Sheboygan Community Garden (Sheboygan Avenue and Segoe Road, at Hill Farms Department of Transportion building) at 9am, with an optional downtown start at 8am, meeting at N. Carroll and W. Mifflin Streets.

The tour will visit four west side gardens and include free breakfast, coffee, lunch, and ice cream, along with kids' activities, music, and a bike support station. The tour is sponsored by the Edgewood College Sustainability Leadership Program and University of Wisconsin-Madison We Conserve program, with support provided by Bagels Forever, Bombay Bicycle Club, Just Coffee, Schoep’s Ice Cream, Madison Community Foundation, and City of Madison CDBG Office. For more information, contact Nicole at CAC at nic...@cacscw.org or 246-4730 x208 or visit www.cacscw.org

Free B-cycle memberships this weekend

The Madison B-cycle bike sharing program will be offering free 24-hour memberships August 26th through 28th in an effort to give more people the opportunity to try out the revolutionary urban transportation program. Users who take advantage of the offer will only have to cover usage fees for trips lasting longer than half an hour. To take advantage of the free 24-hour pass, users simply need to register at any B-cycle station or online at www.madison.bcycle.com  starting Friday, August 26th through Sunday, August 28th.

Madison visitors and residents alike can check out bikes at B-stations located throughout downtown, and return the bike at the end of their trip to any B-station in the city. Designed for short trips in urban areas, B-cycle provides on-demand transportation for Madisonians on-the-go. It’s an eco-friendly, healthy alternative to automotive transportation, and best of all, B-cycles are there whenever you need them.

Launched in the Summer of 2011, Madison B-cycle is the new way Madison moves. By the end of 2011, 35 B-cycle stations holding 350 bikes will be located throughout the downtown and university campus areas of Madison.  Members of the Madison B-cycle team will be available at the August 27th Farmer’s Market to answer any questions a potential B-cycle user might have.
