Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser, an elder at the First Christian Church in Carthage, is putting bumper stickers proclaiming the nation's motto on his agency's 50-odd patrol cars, administrative cars and prisoner transport vans.
James Croft, the outreach leader at an organization called the Ethical Society of Saint Louis that includes religious people as well as agnostics and atheists, questioned why private funds are being used for bumper stickers.
The law enforcement support for the bumper stickers comes as Americans overall are increasingly less religious, according to a 2014 survey of more than 35,000 Americans by the Pew Research Center in Washington, D.C.

A single judge had earlier directed to accept the tax after ensuring that lotteries sold in the State should have only one draw in a week and six bumper draws in a year as provided under Section 4(h) and (J) of the Lotteries (Regulation)Act.
According to the appeal, the directives of the single judge were erroneous. The scope of Section 4(h) and (j) were not the subject matter of the writ petition filed by the promoter. The counsel contended that the Lotteries Regulation Rule framed under the Lotteries (Regulation) Act allowed conduct of 24 draws a day. The Central government had not been made a party nor did the court hear the Central government before making observations on the Central rules. In fact, the entire issue of lotteries was pending before the Supreme Court. It was pointed out that the directive went against the spirit of the Central rule.
Favourite Shanghai Power led, cornered two lengths on top and kept on gamely in a class-record time to make it back-to-back wins. He lived up to a strong trial and can win again. Chunghwa Jingshen stayed on nicely to finish a clear-cut second tracking the leader from a wide draw. It was a solid effort and he should get away with a race shortly. After Me ran on well after settling handy with cover to grab third at the 100m without menacing the top pair. He was a disappointment last season but is clearly capable of big runs over this course on his past form. Joy Avenue got going late from just worse than midfield and one off the fence to fill the frame. It was a respectable effort first-up but he has found things harder after a win in February. Garlic Hero made noticeable ground late along the inside after saving ground behind midfield. He's still a work in progress and appears to want a longer trip. Farm Bumper held his ground after getting posted four deep without cover at one point chasing the speed from a wide draw. He'll likely come on for this run and will be a force to be reckoned with from a better draw.
