I am new to Plesk ( and virtual servers in general ). I have a server running CentOS and Plesk 12 and my domain and web site are working perfectly. At present I also have an instance of Dreamfactory running on port 82 (so access it at :81 ) but I wondered if it were possible to setup a subdomain with plesk such as that would load my dream factory instance without forwarding to :81 (effectively masking the port number).

You are currently not able to Alias a subdomain through plesk. Instead you must create the subdomain as a primary if you wish to alias it. In many situations it would make sense from an organizational standpoint to keep the subdomain under a main domain while still adding aliases to it. I do not believe this is a technical restriction of the webservers so it would be helpful if plesk allowed you to add aliases to subdomains.

Some people would like to use custom one. For me personally it's important to have this as server-wide setting (I have basic workaround for this - custom domainWebmail.php), but it isn't perfect (many links to webmail service missing, e.t.c.).

I usually use the ftp.site.com subdomain for the client FTP connections.

And to secure those connections I enabled FTPs. But at this point the users receive a certificate host name mismatch because the FTPs connection is being setup using the VPS Lets Encrypt cert.
