I've a Sybase SQL Anywhere 9 Server on a Windows server. I've a client with Windows 7. I want install only the ODBC driver for access to the server. But, how find I the ODBC driver? Only in the SDK? 322MB for only ODBC driver?

SQL Anywhere 9 is very old (the current version is 16). I don't know if there's a separate InstallShield setup for just the Version 9 ODBC drivers. However, the V9 Compiled HTML Help describes "Deploying ODBC clients"... you can probably find the Help on the server where the database resides.

ODBC drivers for other DBMS
In this manual, we exclusively refer to the installation of Adaptive Server Anywhere . If you are not using Adaptive Server Anywhere, you may have to install an appropriate driver to connect the client to the database on the server.

We recommend use of the Adaptive Server Anywhere 9.0 Win32 ODBC driver where possible as this is supplied with the server.
When creating a User or System DSN using this driver, the Server name and Database name fields (Under the Database tab) should match those at the server. For the ASA Sample, these are "asademo9" and "asademo" respectively. Under the Network tab, specify TCP/IP as the network protocol and enter the connection string as follows:

In this scenario, you are attempting to connect to an ASA server running on a remote machine. The Openlink mult-tier driver acts as a bridge to a Windows machine where the Win32 Sybase ASA driver is used to complete the conenction.

If connecting from a Mac using the Openlink multi-tier driver, set the driver up to use the DSN named at the request broker, remembering to specify "Odbc" as the Domain type.
The Openlink ODBC Administrator allows you to test the DSN and you should be able to connect using the default username and password of "dba" and "sql" respectively.
Once this is successful, you should then be able to log on from Omnis via the ODBC DAM; specifying the newly created DSN as the hostname. The default username and password are as above.

Mac OS X Client - local connection using "dbodbc9_r.bundle"

In this scenario, your database and client application are both running locally. You can use the ODBC driver supplied with the ASA installation located in the lib32 folder named "dbodbc9_r.bundle".

If using the "dbodbc9_r.bundle" ODBC driver supplied with SQLAnywhere 9, you should use the ODBC Administrator supplied with OS X, add the ODBC driver, then add your User or System DSN as follows:

From the ODBC Administrator, select the Drivers tab, then select Add. In the dialogue which appears, enter a description for the driver. For the Driver file and Setup file, you should Choose the dbodbc9_r.bundle file located in /Applications/SQLAnywhere9/System/lib32 by default.
Press OK followed by Apply to complete setup of the driver.

In the Add Dataset wizard for Lumira, SQL Anywhere is included as a datasource. Just use that - it may be a newer version of the driver, but newer SQL Anywhere JDBC drivers should be able to connect to older database servers.

I'm trying to set up an ODBC connection from a WinXP SP2 box towards an
Sybase Server 8.00.03 running on a NetWare 6.5 SP7 server.I'm pointing the Sybase ODBC 8 driver towards TCP/IP ip_address:2638 The
server does listen on this port as soon as I load the Sybase Server on
NetWare.
Despite which user account I specify I always end up with the error,"Connection Failed: Connection Error: Error in TCPIP Port Options"I can't even do a connection test from within the ODBC driver, I aöways
end up with this error. For the life of me I can't figure out what's cauisng this. I can ping the
server from the WinXP and also connect over telnet on port 2638.Any ideas anyone?

Please further assist...How about if the standard port of 2638 is absolutely NOT the port it
is running under ( can't see with netstat -a ) yet I KNOW the engine &
database db files attached are running. How on earth do I find port
number for adaptive server engine when not on standard port ???adaptive server icon is not showing in live icons on desktop taskbar
so can't look in there. Yet I see engine process running using
tasklist & I know database is processing live on various .db files &
logs.

  • From the Adaptive Server Anywhere program group select Manage Adaptive Server Anywhere. Sybase Central opens.
  • Select Upgrade Database from the Adaptive Server Anywhere Utilities list.
  • Browse to the SQL Anywhere 5.5 database you wish to upgrade.
  • If you wish to connect to this database with the Adaptive Server Anywhere ODBC driver, you must create an ODBC datasource for this newly upgraded database. It is recommended that the old SQL Anywhere 5.5 data source name (DSN) be deleted before doing this and the same DSN name be used for the ASA 6 version of this datasource.
  • Add the database to the SilverStream server as a Sybase ASA 6 database. For more information about setting up your Sybase ASA 6 databases, see Setting up a Sybase ASA or SQL Anywhere database next.

This connector supports event collection from the Sybase embedded database only using ODBC. The ODBC data source must be configured on the machine where the SmartConnector is to be installed. When installing Endpoint Protection with the embedded database, the ODBC driver for Adaptive Server Anywhere is provided and installed on the same system as Endpoint Protection. To install the driver on a remote computer, the DLL for the ODBC driver can be found in your Endpoint Protection installation, for example, c:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint protection Manager\ASA\win32\dbodbc9.dll.

I am not able to see the SQL Anywhere DSN in 64-bit ODBC. I copied the sepm\win32 folder from a SEPM server, with embedded database. After that, I ran regsvr32 to register the dbodbc16.dll file(which is inside the win32 folder copied above).
