I have the Netflix app on a fully updated Hisense Roku Tv. The problem started where Netflix was crashing all the time. I cleared all the cash and then I reset the app. I also reset the Roku app then I uninstalled Netflix and put it back on. Now while watching a movie if I rewind or fast forward it does it for a little while and then it will crash to the home screen for Roku and I have to start all over again. The problem is really annoying and I've tried everything. The only thing I haven't tried is deleting the Netflix app or just putting a hammer through the TV and never getting another Roku device again. They're always glitchy I have like five different types of Roku TVs and devices with like a bunch of TVs for those types of devices a total of like 15 Roku TVs or Roku devices on Roku TVs. They all have their own separate type of glitches and they're all updated and all the apps are updated and no matter what they all have different glitches and different problems that come and go. This one is particularly annoying because it's the main TV that I use.

When watching the Netflix app on sky glass, the fast forward function is so slow. It only goes forward in 10 second intervals (slowly if held or slightly faster is pushing the right hand button repeatedly in quick succession) and has no increased speed or skip function as most other apps and Netflix directly on a smart TV do. Does anyone know if sky are looking at this issue as it pretty irritating?

@StGe Unfortunately that is the way Netflix works when watching through Sky and it can be very frustrating. As far as fixing the speed is concerned I imagine the problem is actually with Netflix as it is their App that Sky are using.

Our sky Q used to fast forward on Netflix no problem. I think its something Sky have intentionally made difficult on their new platforms to prevent people from watching Netflix rather than Sky so easily. Doubt it will change.

I was watching a replay of the new Chris Rock special (Selective Outrage). The original had been a live stream, and the UX was slightly different from a typical recorded program. When I tried to rewind, the scrub bar would show up and count the time code backwards normally, as if I was rewinding. But when I pressed play, nothing happened. It would just stay there. There was no way to make it respond. If I pressed the back button, it would just start playing again where it had originally been before the rewind attempt.

Seems like an annoying bug to not be able to rewind or fast forward a special like this. But even if they're going to not allow those functions, they should say so when you attempt it, and not show the counter rewinding. Hope this isn't the case for all formerly live events.

Have you tried removing the affected channel Netflix and then re-install again? If not, we suggest starting there. In some cases, removing the affected channel and then re-installing it may help. Restart your device before re-adding the channel back in to ensure the process is successful. We recommend doing this through the Settings menu by navigating to Settings > System > Power (If there is no Power submenu, proceed to the next step.) > System restart.

Same thing happens to me as well. It will fast forward or rewind but the play button doesn't work. It only starts again, still at the original point if I press the down arrow. I fell asleep watching and now I have to watch it all over again. Very annoying..

Unclear if that's a joke, or if serious what makes you think that. Makes no sense, as it only happens on Roku and not Apple TV. Unless you're saying Chris Rock hates Roku. I can understand disabling fast forward, as is common on PPV. But there is no good reason I can think of to disable rewind.

Further, I've never seen it done where it pretends to be rewinding and then just doesn't play. When it's disabled by design, it usually causes a pop-up saying the feature is disabled. Or just doesn't respond when you try. This is not that.

Was this just shooting from the hip?

Just the one program (the Chris Rock special) on the one channel (Netflix). It was Netflix's first live event. So somehow encoded differently. The scroll bar looks different from other Netflix programs.

But it's a Roku-only problem. This behavior doesn't happen on my Apple TV. It rewinds fine there. Also, when viewing on Roku, the pre-show and after show aren't available. But those both appear on Apple TV,

There are definitely other streaming players that are offering FF and REW on the show. So it's not meant that way due to Netflix or the producers. Apple TV and Chrome offer the functions. Seems like yet another case where the Roku functionality is poorer than other players. Same is true for ESPN, where Roku's app is much worse than most others, offering no preview when you REW and FF.

For more information about that channel's content and functionality, you'll want to contact the Netflix channel support directly to inquire further. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.

I was wondering if it was a setting or something as it seems all of the tv shows show the chapters (like Netflix) when rewinding and fast forwarding and not all movies but some. So what will need to be done to get this feature to work on all of my content?

Is it because the movies and tv shows are new libraries (had to redo my entire tv library after the update) meaning this will only work on or with new libraries and if so how can I get it to work on my old libraries without repopulating them all over again?

Hey Luke I checked the thumbnail settings like you asked and here is what was checked and the time for creating them on the working tv shows library and the movie library. I changed the settings and made them the same as you see here for all libraries 1080p movies, 4k movies, stand up etc... none work other then these 2 libraries.

Also might be a stupid question but if I may ask what is the Scheduled thumbnail image extraction for... is that related to what we are talking about here for Chapter and Rewind/fast forward creation?

Yes, it is possible to fast-forward and rewind Netflix online content up to three different speeds. Depending on the product, use the left arrow and right arrow buttons or the fast-forward or rewind buttons on the remote control. Each time one of these buttons is pressed, the fast-forward or rewind speed changes. The Netflix video screen does not show navigation controls for streamed movies, you can still go to a particular section of a movie using the buttons shown in red below on the keypad remote control.

Newbie here, just ordered my tablo 4 tuner. I have a question about the difference between a roku 3 and a roku stick, are there different features that I need to be aware of before I purchase one or the other?

I just purchased a 4 tuner Tablo along with Roku 2 and Sling TV. I love it so far but the only downside is the same concern as Blaze 85 mentioned - there is no way to see where you are when fast forwarding through commercials. Compared with cable, this is a definite disadvantage. I see that you mentioned you were working on this and wondered when we could see some changes? Thanks!

Thank you for reaching out to us about your Xumo box. Once you have the show playing you can press either the right or left arrow to fast forward/rewind. You can find more helpful hints by visiting Exploring your Xumo Box Please let us know if you have any other questions. -Lyn

I get confused about if I am on Spectrum or Xumo when I record now that I don't have a DVR recorder and now have a Xumo box. When I am in a recorded program and try to fast forward or rewind in the circle part of the remote ( I have no right or left arrow), I get a menu when I press to the right to fast forward and I get nothing when I press the left side of the circle to try to rewind. I see no option to pause.

Once you are in the recording press the center of the round button in the middle. That will pause the recording. Once it pauses you can then use the right or left button to fast forward or rewind the recorded program. Took me awhile to figure it out as there are NO clear cut instructions. Hope this helps !

I want to scream everytime I hit the right circle button and get the guide when i'm trying to fast fwd a recording or on-demand program. You have to remember to press the middle button first! Seems like it should be automatic in playback mode. Please...can this be fixed?

The spectrum app on Xumo is garbage. To not support pause and rewind and fast forward is far inferior to the set top dvr. My streaming service at my other home is DirectTV Streaming and I have cloud dvr service. That service allows me to pause rewind and fast forward while watching any live show, from any of my streaming boxes.

There is absolutely no reason that Spectrum cannot simple automatically record whatever you are watching, allow you to pause and fast forward, then delete that temporary recording when you change the channel. DirectTV saves whatever you are watching for up to the last hour so that you can use these features.

The problem is indeed with the Spectrum app. The app just has a lousy FF feature. And, the Spectrum app does not provide automatic rewind of live TV. I am experimenting with how to do this by starting a recording.

You can watch the Spectrum app with Roku, and the fast-forward works a little better. But not much better, just a little easier to avoid forwarding all the way to the end of a title before you can stop it. On Roku, you can watch your cloud DVR titles, and record to cloud DVR.

The Xumo remote has a numeric keypad, so you can easily swap between channel numbers. The Xumo remote supports voice channel changes, although you have to be specific about the channel name, and it's hard for me to remember the call letters of my local network affiliates.

When I try to watch something recorded on the cloud DVR with Xumo box and want to fast forward. The picture stays on the paused image and the timer moves forwad which makes me have to guess when the commercials are over which is extremely frustrating. Is this the way it is now?
