Translation and German Pronunciation in Zimmermann Christmas Motets
The following are phrases transcribed into phonetics as if English nonsense words. The format is:
1. Translation
2. German text

Note: One of the sounds that doesn’t occur in English is the
German ‘ch’.
There are two variants of this: a high sound as in the German word “ich” and a low sound as in the German word “doch”. In order to transcribe these two ‘ch’ sounds I’ve used the following:
1. For ‘ich’ (the sound a cat makes when hissing at you): sh
Examples:
German: mich; transcribed: mish

2. For ‘doch’: the same I use for Slavonic ‘х’: kh: dokh
German: Bach; transcribed: Bakh

Translation: Arise, shine, for thy light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
