Please put the following information into your calendars!

Registration for fall semester and first rehearsal:
Watts Hall, Tuesday, 12 September.
Registration will open at 6:15. There will be a brief rehearsal starting at 6:45, followed by a social time. Refreshments, anyone?

Rehearsals will continue on Tuesday nights at Watts Hall from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Repertoire: This will be Down East's first experience producing a multi-media show. It will be in collaboration with Halcyon String Quartet and videographer Luke Fatora. There will be projected art shown behind the group during the entire concert. For this production, the group will be on the floor (using risers) and the players will be on the stage behind the group so that a screen can be used for projections.

Marianna Filippi: To Maine, With Love for chorus, string quartet, accordion, and piano. This piece was commissioned by DES for Maine's bicentennial in 2020 but was not performed at that time due to the pandemic. The composer (from Maine) now lives in Denmark. She will be present for the performances. This will be a world premiere performance of her work.

Delmar Dustin Small: Wreathe the Holly, Twine the Bay for chorus, string quartet, accordion and piano. This was performed in 2019 when it was scored for brass quartet and piano accompaniment. The composer has rescored it for the instruments required in Marianna Filipp's piece.

Antonio Vivaldi: Gloria. This choral masterpiece and Christmas favorite hasn't been performed by DES for many years. We'll use the same instrumentalists to accompany it.

Early American tunes: Daniel Read's "While Shepherds Watched their Flocks by Night" and William Billings's "Becalmed" (text by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow).

Performances:
Friday, 8 December, 7:30 p.m. at Watts Hall
Sunday, 10 December, 2 p.m. at Rockport Opera House
