Dear Singers,

A few of you have emailed me asking what edition we're using for the Vivaldi Gloria. The answer is this: it's the one I found on the internet and emailed to you in July. There's nothing wrong with it. In fact, it's superior to one of the published editions.

I had this score printed out for you at Staples (along with all the other music you'll be singing this coming semester). Julee Johnson and Susan Hyde have put all this music into envelopes for you when you attend the first session on 12 September.

The day I picked up the print order from Staples it was raining torrentially. To prevent getting the music soaked on the way to my car, the Staples clerk taped the boxes shut to keep the rain out. So I didn't check the order as I usually do.

It wasn't until Julee and Susan got started putting the music into the envelopes that they found that Staples had done the entire order on single-sided pages. Unfortunately, I have no way to prove to Staples that I ordered double-sided copies, so we're stuck with them.

Unfortunately, Marianna Filippi's piece and Delmar Small's piece as well as some brief Early American hymns are also single-sided copies. But I won't bother with sending those out to you at this time. It's the Vivaldi that's the longest piece and therefore the most pages.

Here are some options that you might want to consider:
1. If you have a decent printer at home and know how to make double-sided copies, print your own. We'll have a hole-punching machine available at rehearsals.
2. If you don't mind the task, you can use double-sided tape and make the single-sided copies into double-sided copies. You'll need the hole-punching machine to do this.
3. If you don't mind turning a lot of pages, you can take the music you get at the first rehearsal and use it that way.

I write this to you now so you'll make your own decision about how to cope with this mess. I'm terribly sorry it happened and I can't say who's to blame, but we have what we have and it's now up to you to decide how you want to proceed.

Cheers,
Tony

Here's a link to the Vivaldi if you didn't keep it when I sent it out in July:

You are a champ, Tony! I’ll put mine back to back, easy and effective, tape or no tape. Bright Blessings, Susan

Susan St John

Thank you Julie and Susan Hyde, for all your work!
