Brad, hey man, it was great to see you and your lovely companion in attendance. It's been way too long -- we missed you! You picked a cool show for your Dayton return visit. An inspired set, I thought. The guys killed.

I do recall that 2011 Stranahan show was a blast, opening for Todd Rundgren, who's still going strong these days, hanging out with Ringo, among other neer-do-wells.

Oh, yeah, you have hit upon some highlights, "Mattress," "Veneer," and, gawd, for me, I LOVE the delirious vitriol of "Hope It Works Out" -- "and convince some dummy to polish your crown." High-octane, love-bitten bitterness.

Here's a couple days-of-yore Bears cuts you might want to dig into -- the backbone slide groove of "Rabbit Manor" and the blues-disguised-as-pop take on love's labors lost, "Aches and Pains." Chances probably fairly slim of the dots reviving these any time soon, though.

But for the dots, only their unpredictability is predictable. And if you really want to dig, check out "Quarters" by The Raisins.

I remain humbled by these pop-genius artists who walk among us (literally) disguised as humans. Conveying emotions into melody and verse, and shaking it out to life's agonies and joys. Madness you can dance to. The mind boggles.

But it's sure kept me vertical all these years. I and the privileged faithful who stumbled upon the psychodotic path can only appreciate our good fortune to hear their ongoing life soundtrack, be it in the car, in person or in the ether.

Yeah, if the world were fair, this trio would be millionaires with their own show on Netflix and an annual holiday special on NBC. They are talented composers, musicians and performers. And entertainers. And nice guys. Many have made it far, far further on far, far less.

Anyway, I'm one of the few bipeds not on Facebook these days, but I know Rob has a public FB page here:

It's a good one.
Fred

Hey all... Brad from Findlay here... Is this group still on?? Couldn't
make the shows last year, so was extremely happy to make the show in Dayton
this year. Enjoyed the venue, but I'm sure the 'dots would sound great
anywhere! I'm still a relative noob, having only seen them at Canal Street
(several times) and the Stranahan in Toledo before Gilly's this time, but I
thought there were a few things worth noting about this show:

1) Bob did a great job filling in for Robert Fripp on the solo for "Dave."
Made me think it should've been on bass all along! Love to hear the 'dots
playing Bears songs, like "Veneer" and "When She Moves" -- more great Bob
songs! I'd like to request some more of Rob's Bears songs in the future
Thanksgiving shows: "Normal" and "Zelda Fitzgerald" are personal
favorites since the "Eureka" tour was the first time I saw Rob, Bob, and
Chris play at Canal Street. I'm not much of a musician, so I have no idea
how difficult it would be for them to play the songs without that other
guy... what was his name again??... but if they can cover a Robert Fripp
solo so well, nothing should be too problematic!

2) Started the "Plays guitar so awful" part a little early, eh Rob?? But
seriously, enjoyed the improvising from Bob and Chris while Rob re-tuned at
the beginning of "Mattress"... and then the extended "awful" guitar part
was splendidly awful... always one of my favorite songs -- I love how Rob's
solos ("awful" and otherwise) are always a little different, yet still
spectacular, every show I see.

3) Since "Mattress" is one of my favorites, I do need to express that I'm
quite sad there was no balloon-aided guitar solo in the show. This was
somewhat made up for with the inclusion of "Fear is Never Boring" in the
encore. Most people might complain about certain songs that were not
played, but instead I complain about balloons. I guess I'm spoiled if
that's all I have to complain about!

Okay, back to another few months of listening to 'dots CDs in my car until
the next opportunity to see them in person. Happy Holidays!!
