Hello fellow dot-heads! This post is intended to give some general info
about the "psychodots fans" Google Group, especially of interest if you
haven't joined yet or have just done so.

First of all, this group was created as a replacement for the Psycho
Depot mailing list, an email-based discussion forum for psychodots-etc.
fans that has been run manually by fan Mike Brown for over a decade.
The last issue that was sent out was in October 2006, and since it
seems to be out of commission now, this group can serve as a
replacement until (if/when) the Depot resumes. Activity level on the
Depot has declined quite a bit in recent years, but there continue to
be gig announcements and other time-sensitive info and a group like
this is the best way to get those things out promptly to everyone with
an interest.

This "psychodots fans" Google Group is set up to allow anyone to view
all posts by accessing the group's website at
http://groups.google.com/group/dots-fans -- so if you don't want to
join, you can visit the site as you like to keep up with new posts. But
to submit posts yourself, or to receive posts via email, you must
become a member of the group (sometimes called subscribing). To do
this, just look for a link on the group website to join the group. To
join, you must sign up for a Google account if you don't already have
one. But please note that you can use any email address for this; it
does not have to be a Google email (gmail) address. At some point you
will be asked to type in an answer to the question about when you first
heard of psychodots; this is just for me to try to weed out any
spammers or others who don't have a genuine interest. I don't intend to
censor anything that a legitimate group member posts, unless we get
into some ugly flame wars or something along those lines. One great
thing about the Psycho Depot is that communication almost always stayed
on a friendly, respectful level.

To post, you can do so directly from the group website as long as
you're signed in with a member email address, or you can post via email
from the address you joined with by emailing posts to
dots...@googlegroups.com. Each member can set their own preferences
to receive no email, daily summaries, daily digests, or each post as
it's submitted. The website acts as an automatic archive of all posts,
and it's searchable.

The group is set up as one containing adult content so you might have
to click a button stating you're over 18 to access it on the web, and
it you might have trouble accessing it at work. I set it up this way
because Depot posts contained the occasional obscenity, but nothing
much beyond what you might hear in stage banter at a psychodots show.

If you are having a problem joining the group or some other technical
or logistical concern, you can email me at ashd...@gmail.com and I'll
try to assist.

If you don't already know about them, other web sites of interest are
the psychodots official site at http://psychodots.com and the Bears
official site at http://www.thebearsmusic.com. To read and search back
issues of the Psycho Depot, see http://p-dots.home.insightbb.com.

Please spread the word about this new group to anyone you know that
might be interested.

Thanks,
scooob (aka David Ash)

Hi all, a few administrative updates on the group:

(1) I had the "adult" classification removed from the group. I think
that's intended for groups with sexual themes. And when you look at the
psychodots, is sex the first thing that pops into your mind? Well, to
each his/her own. But seriously, the "adult" setting seemed to cause
the web site to hang sometimes, after clicking the "I'm 18" button, and
it also caused the site to be blocked from various internet content
filters, including those at some worksites.

(2) Google has updated their groups interface, so if you're accessing
this group via the web, you'll see a new look & feel, and some new
features, like the ability to upload files and create pages. If you
have any cool pictures or soundfiles or other goodies, now you can
share them with all of us.

(3) Membership has grown to over 45 people, which is great. But the
Depot had over 180 subscribers up to the end, so surely there are some
folks who'd be interested who don't know about the new group, or maybe
don't know how to access it. If you know of anyone like that, please
reply to me with email addresses of potential members and I'll send
invitations.

Dave - agree, thanks so much for all you've done. The site/group page
is looking great. I think once Ashley updates the 'dots website with
this link, we'll have even more new members. Can't wait!
