Hi all,
Our next meeting is on Thursday March 7th in conference room 2 of the Workstation from 18:30 - 20:30. The Workstation is located opposite Sheffield train station, behind the Showroom cinema and next to our former venue of the GIST Lab:
This month we have the following two speakers:
Paul Michaels (@paul_michaels)- "The Windows 8 App Store: What I've learned so far"
John Nolan (@johnnonolan)- "Legacy code rehab"
The description for John's talk is
"If you believe the blogo and twitterspheres we're all writing sleek well designed, SOLID, test covered, behavior driven, pluggable, perfomant, immutable, asynchronous node.js in sharded erlang on our ubuntu phones. If you aren't then apparently you're some form of knuckle dragging Neanderthal But guess what? Codebases exist well after the high paid consultants abandon their half baked designs. The majority of codebases are ugly, broken and damn scary to work with and the majority of software development is work on those codebases.
In this session we will be looking, dissecting and discussing legacy code and with any luck we will be making some of it better too.
Laptops preferred. Opinions required.
Hopefully suitable for developers of all skill levels."
