Our system will allow up to 6 usb disk drives to be plugged in to 6 usb
cables.
I need to know which disk is allocated to which USB port.
Does anyone know of any way , API call, drivers etc that I can use to
find out
the USB information for a USB disk etc given it's drive mapping.

Is it possible to force the USB port mapping to a particular drive
letter ?
Eg port 1 = D: port 2 = E: etc ?

The next release of my USB drive letter manager will be able
to do that. Here is a pre version:

I think it is ready but there is no harm in more testing. And it gives
me more time to write some more documentation :-)

Here is the page of the current release. The prices will be stable...

UWE - this sounds very good - keep up the good work.
I think that we will need the 'Drive letter assingment by USB port' which you mention
in your 'Plans' section - do you have any idea when you may do this ?
Regards Chris

It is implemented and works fine in the pre version I mentioned
in my first answer:

Hi Uwe,
Sorry to bother you but I have not very far so far - It's probably me being stupid.

My pc is running Windows Server 2003.
I currently have two USB drives connected X: and Y:
I would like to be able to assign them their drive letters automatically when they are plugged into specific USB port.
For Example:
when either drive is plugged into usb port 1 it will be S:
and when either drive is plugged into usb port 2 it will be T:
In order to do that I think that I need to fill in the [DriveLettersUsbPort1] section and the [DriveLettersUsbPort2] section ?
In your notes it says I must run ListUsbDrives.exe  - However when I do that it does not show any USB ports ? Whether USBDLM is installed or not.

Regards Chris

Yes, exactly.

ListUsbDrives does not rely on USBDLM. I've not tested it under Windows
Server 2003 but I had expected that it works here too. I can check it
out
on monday at the earliest.

It can search for USB drives only, not for ports. Did you have at least
one
USB drive attached?

ListUsbDrives handles the USB part a this Microsoft tool does:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/stream/vidcap/UVCView.mspx

Does it find your USB drives?
