Default host change propogation

Do you know how to tell dotcms not to propagate default host changes?

To make something work in a lower instance, we had to set the default host to a different microsite.  

The problem is that at least twice, this default host change seems to get push-published to higher environment dotcms instances, breaking the functionality on those sites.

Is there some setting to prevent that "default host" feature from propagating?
