Beginning in January, we have expanded our work to Vieques, an island in Puerto Rico that has been affected by past bomb testing. Bikes Not Bombs is working closely with the community in building a strong biking culture and reliable, sustainable transportation options. Our signature ‘Chain Reaction’ bike repair events have provided services directly to over 50 youth and adults over the course of our visits, offered at no cost to recipients. |
Because the island lacks a local bike shop, our ability to provide access to parts and supplies has enabled us to fill a need in this environmental justice community. Our efforts highlight the importance of biking and sustainability, aligned with our goal to create lasting change in Boston and the Global South. We look forward to further strengthening this partnership, highlighting the importance of biking in sustainability efforts.
La Colmena, the small non-profit in Vieques that has significantly helped in our work there, is in need of support following Tropical Storm Ernesto. As outlined in this document, please consider making a donation to help them rebuild & repair.

Core Values: Local & Global Solidarity |
As we continue to celebrate our 40th Anniversary, we want to use this opportunity to both emphasize and expand on our Core Values. We are excited to announce an important update to Bikes Not Bombs’ core values: “Local and Global Solidarity.” This value embodies our commitment to fostering unity and collaboration across communities.
“We deeply value the collective knowledge and lived experience found in local and global communities. We believe in the transformative power of solidarity that transcends borders, fostering unity and collaboration, especially for Black and other marginalized communities. By amplifying the contributions of Black and Brown individuals and communities worldwide, we create a vibrant network of mutual support that enriches us all. Together, we harness our collective knowledge and power to drive meaningful change and promote a more equitable world.”

Leah Budson, 2024 Farber Summer Fellow
BNB was thrilled to host Farber Fellow Leah Budson as part of REDF’s Growth Portfolio program! Leah joined BNB in late May after completing her first year at MIT Sloan. Prior to grad school, she was a consultant at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), during which she spent some time on secondment with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as an Associate Strategy Officer.
At BNB, Leah focused on a Bike Shop profitability analysis and constituent segmentation. She brought insight to our products and services; and tailoring communications to our diverse audience. Join us in thanking Leah for her hard work! |

Bikes Not Bombs is seeking candidates to serve as board advisors. Board advisors provide guidance to the organization, participating in strategic planning and fundraising, and other responsibilities.
Racial equity is central to the mission of BNB and is highlighted in our 2025 Strategic Plan. We seek to more fully represent our community and constituencies, particularly Black and other marginalized people in Boston so as to amplify those voices ensuring equitable participation in the overall leadership and direction of the organization. We actively encourage people with a strong connection to our programs, mission, and the communities we serve to apply. We are currently recruiting folks who possess knowledge or expertise in the following areas: human resources, finance, fundraising, nonprofit leadership, management, and racial equity. We know that there are many more skills that aren't on this list, but these areas are critical for developing an effective board of directors.
If you are interested in applying, please send an email describing your interest, and a copy of your resume to eli...@bikesnotbombs.org in order to receive an official application form.
