How do we implement the new colour feature?

At one of the last formal libmapper meetings, a new colour feature was mentioned. We can now customise the colour assigned to devices, yes? Is there any documentation on how to do this, yet? I looked for some details on the Git.

In addition, does this colour feature allow us to assign a unique colour to a specific OSC container/level? For instance, I'd like to be able to assign these two addresses different colours based on the 2nd container. Both of these are [mpr.in] objects in the same Max patch and, thus, are part of the same [mpr.device]

Thanks

Hi Andrew,

You can add the property @color.hue to your [mpr.*] object to specify the colour that will show up in Webmapper views. There are a couple of caveats:

– you’ll need to use a version of webmapper later than the change I pushed yesterday if you want to control the colours of signals separately from the colour of the device. In some cases the signal colour will override the displayed device colour, but this still might be useful for you. I’ll try to find a minute to fix the glitches
– the current version of the Max bindings only allows you to specify device properties at instantiation (i.e. when typed into the [mpr.device] object box) rather than using messages. The [mpr.in] and [mpr.out] objects will also accept properties as messages (without the ‘@‘ symbol), and future versions of [mpr.device] will also support this feature

Cheers,
Joe

Great info. Joe .Thank you.

This isn't super urgent. My system is running in a very stable way now (other than a few odd things with Spectrasonics' Omnisphere). So, I won't be updating any software until after my up-coming gigs. I'd like to run @color.hue tests in March.  As usual, just need to understand which versions of the software will give me this feature. The latest Git release of webmapper is still v2.4.12.  And I'm using the Max bindings that you made uniquely for me on 16 December, 2024.

PS>  Might I see you in Montreal, shortly?
