South lake Tahoe was about how we expected, hotels, tourist shops, and
casinos (on the Nevada side), not exactly our ideas of a vacation.
Tahoe itself is a beautiful lake, deep emerald blue like those
pictures you see in the tourist advertisements for Caribbean cruses,
the city just doesn't do it justice. We found the library and
bought tickets home from Reno to Spokane. The Casnos all run a
shuttle service to the airport in Reno for $23, so we decided to use
that service. Zack completed the last section to Echo Lake and
hitched into Tahoe. We left him a voicemail on his cellphone so that
he could find us. When we got back from checking out the town Zack
was at our hotel. We asked the hotel manager if he cold sleep on our
room's floor for free, to which she almost said no but we convinced
her otherwise.

We said goodbye to Zack, a melancholy moment, and caught the 7:40 am
bus to the casinos at the stateline. I am sure we will see Zack again
somewhere, he is certainly invited to hang out at our house for a
while whenever he calls his trip complete. Hopefully he will make it
up to Washington state and we can hike a section together. Our minds
are set on doing something else this summer before dedicating our
lives to work again, this will be one of our last chances to travel an
extended time together, at least for a while. The current plan is to
go to Europe enjoy culture and hike in the Alps, perhaps a section of
a long distance trail there, the sky is the limit.

We made all of our connections on time; hotel -> bus to casino -> bus
to Reno -> flight to Seattle -> flight to Spokane. It was weird to
step out of the plane back in my hometown. It was strange, almost
like we never left, like the last thousand miles never happened, yet
they certainly did. I felt neither happy or sad to be back, just
tired and hungry. It will take a while for things to sink in.

Expect more journaling soon, our adventure is not over.

Aaron
