Hi All
PHP staff who attended the December All Staff Meeting will know what ‘Fareshare’ is, but others copied in may not. Please contact Sarah....@Bournemouth.gov.uk if you need further information. Sarah is Coordinator of the Bournemouth and Poole Sustainable Food Cities Partnership.
Essentially, Fareshare is a national organisation which takes surplus food from supermarkets and distributes it to not-for profit organisations and projects – food banks, lunch clubs, youth clubs, children’s centres etc. – for a small charge. The food is mainly fresh (e.g. meat, fish, milk products, fruit and veg), so cold storage is needed, and is often top end, but you never know what will be in your consignment. The service costs from around £10 a week for a weekly delivery. One tray of food – approx. 4kg – costs £3.
Fareshare Southampton is looking to expand into Bournemouth and Poole and is currently attempting to assess demand. So:
1) If your organisation might be interested, please send your contact details to Sarah....@Bournemouth.gov.uk .
2) If you know of any other groups/organisations which might be interested, please forward this email on to them, or provide Sarah with their contact details
Sarah is organising an event in March which will bring together all the interested parties, and organisations who are already using Fareshare.
Many thanks
Clare
