Supporting Communities and Voluntary Organisations in Dorset

Are you helping people to be more satisfied with their lives and be healthier?

Can you help us with a Short Survey?

Dorset Community Action is working with Public Health Dorset to identify voluntary and community groups working in Dorset that are contributing to health and wellbeing.  This is to link into the new LiveWell Dorset – Health Improvement Hub a new Public Health service in Dorset. (Please see attached Press Release ).

In order to do this we need YOUR help – completing this survey will help;

  • YOU, raising awareness of what you do, could lead to more people using your services and influence how the LiveWell Dorset – Health Improvement Hub will support you in the future.
  • US, to make the case for the contribution you and the voluntary and community sector make to health and wellbeing.

LiveWell Dorset is designed to support people who want to make lifestyle changes to improve their long-term health. LiveWell Dorset, will be staffed by people skilled at customer relations, engagement and motivation, who will provide a simple access point to assess individual needs and refer them to the right health improvement pathway or offer direct 1:1 support where needed (for information click here).

We recognise that there are many different organisations in Dorset that support people to improve their health and wellbeing, not just those that provide public health services like stop smoking.

Contributing to health is not just work that directly relates to a medical condition such as a heart condition, brain injuries, mental health, MS, etc. It also includes any work you do which prevents people from becoming unwell and improves their well being by encouraging exercise or increasing confidence/self-esteem for example.

Wellbeing can be influenced by many things such as income, housing, education, social networks, personal health, etc. Most voluntary and community groups will be contributing to wellbeing which includes individuals feeling good and functioning well.

Your work may be contributing to wellbeing if you help people to:

  1. Connect with others, e.g. groupwork, social gatherings, befriending, reducing isolation;
  2. Be active e.g. sport, play, exercise, walking, in fact anything that will make people more active;
  3. Take notice e.g. offering new and different experiences, helping people to think about how they are feeling;
  4. Keep learning e.g. classes and groups learning new skills;
  5. Give e.g. using volunteers, joining in, befriending, opportunities to donate.

Our work with Public Health Dorset over the next year will include:

  • Providing advice and support to help you identify needs, develop new activities and be more effective;
  • Giving you advice on appropriate ways to measure the difference you make to health and well being;
  • Finding out your  training and support needs for delivering  health and wellbeing services;
  • Promoting your Service to a wider audience;
  • Supporting you to make referrals to the Health Improvement Hub;

By taking part in this survey you will be influencing how the LiveWell project develops in partnership with the voluntary and community sector and will broaden the offer of support that the hub provides to you and your users.

This is an initial short survey to identify which, and how, organisations contribute to health and wellbeing in Dorset.

The full survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete.

Thank you so much for your interest and we look forward to contacting you again with further information in the coming months.

Please complete the survey by Friday 15th May by going to: www.surveymonkey.com/s/publichealthdorset
