Hi All
Radeon PRO W5500 and Threadripper 3975
Latest enterprise driver. When system is not loaded I've never be able to reduce the fan speed even if I setup at around 1350
It alwasy remain around 2200 generating a lot of noise even if no load
Any suggestion on how to reduce the fan speed at the minimum possible?

I have two w5500's, i never had any real issues with the fan speed, also the card isn't loud at all. On another note, i bought a w6600 to replace it and its worth it. Quiet, cool, and i use workstation gpus for gaming, so I get a nice 25% increase in performance.

On another note, i recommend using Adrenalin 20.9.1, its the best driver i ever use using the W5500. Old driver but way faster, stable and image color quality is better. The w5500 when it comes to drivers at least with me, that was the only decent driver that work with the card. 21.q3 is solid though, but 20.9.1 was the best. But upgrading to a w6600 is well worth it. I got mine from ebay for $403.

Try using FanControl app.
GitHub repo

It is an external solution, but may give you fan control you want. It also allows you to do some cheeky stuff, like increase intake fan speed depending on CPU OR GPU, what is higher.

@DimkaTsvthank you. I forgot to mention, but I already tried with no luck; unfortunately AMD driver must have some way of preventing external software from sending pwm signals to the fan. Every other fan in the system gets properly recognized and piloted, except that one.

"Another weird behavior is that when I move the sliders back to their original state the fan takes about 3-4 minutes to slow down to the usual 2200-2230 rpm."
Well 3-4 minutes are strange.
But were they ever more silent?
Because their 100% RPM is 5400, meaning 30-35% should be... hmm 1620-1890 RPM... Still not 2200
You may try MPT and edit BIOS values (no permament changes will be made, it is just SPPT) for fan speed in registry, but i am not sure if it will work for workstation GPU. Also you can see what was set in hardware default there.

To be honest I'm not confident enough to edit the bios and flash it to the board, and even if I were I wouldn't want that because it's not how it's supposed to be fixed, especially with a professional grade card.

One thing that jumps to the eye is that "power limit maximum" is 20 and "power limit minimum" is 50; how can maximum be lower than minimum?! All the other thing I really can't tell whether they're set right or not.

Easy... Minimum is -50%, while maximum is +20%. There are no positives or negatives in values in BIOS, they are just assumed.
You can try to enable ZeroRPM feature with MPT, it will help with idle fan speed (when GPU temp is below 60 to start spinning, and required to fall below 50 to stop fan spin with defaults). As i said, it only makes registry edits, and no factual changes will be made. They even required to be repeated after every driver update/reinstall.

But when I send something to the printer, regardless of whether from Word, or Adobe, or whatever, the print gets spooled in the printer queue, only to get stuck. When I look at the printer display it tells me Tray 1 is empty (it's not) but then says Tray 2 has paper, and if I arrow down to this mythical tray 2, it will finally print.. THERE IS NO TRAY 2!. The settings menu on the printer itself says there are only MPT and Tray 1. So WTH!

What is going on? I try searching the web for the problem but all I get are support and forum posts about other printers. It's as if the world printer support community pretends this printer doesn't exist.

By default, the LBP622Cdw features a paper drawer (Tray 1) and a Multipurpose Tray (MPT). The paper settings on the computer will take priority over any paper settings on the printer itself, so ensure you're changing the paper type and feed source in the driver (Windows) or print screen (Mac OS).

Please also keep in mind that some software, such as Adobe's suite of creative software, tend to use their own proprietary print screens; in such a case, refer to the software's documentation and support for directions on accessing the relevant settings.

I have been using HP and Canon printers for 30 years. But with a recent purchase of a MF743Cdw, printing to the Multi-Purpose Tray (MPT) has been a mystery and prints to Drawer1 unexpectedly and inconsistently. Sometimes it goes to the MPT. Reviewing community support has been no help and organized in a bewildering way, frankly. Easy to click on the fat Kudos button, but I don't see many Kudos out there Mostly unanswered questiosn shggesting where else to turn for answers.

Then in check printing software, we select MPT as Paper Source, click Paper Source Info, click Retrieve Paper Source Info which shows Letter-Portrait paper 20 lbs, click Close, click OK, click Print and the checks unexpectedly go to Drawer 1.

The Get Paper Source Information list does not display the paper settings for the source you've already selected. It displays a list of the paper settings registered on the printer itself to each paper source.

From your description, you only have Drawer 1 registered, which is to "Letter-Portrait 20 lb." When you select "Letter-Portrait 20 lb" in the Get Paper Source Information list, you're telling the driver to change the paper source to the one registered with 20 lb letter-size paper in Portrait orientation, which in this case is Drawer 1.

If you've already set the Paper Source manually to the Multipurpose Tray (MPT), it will feed from the Multipurpose Tray until otherwise changed. It will attempt to use the paper settings specified either elsewhere in the settings or, depending on the program, specified in the program from which you are printing.

What a terrible design. Choosing a paper source should be straight forward, but as said, it is over complicated! I cannot find anywhere where to directly choose the paper source drawer! Also, when i try to print via wifi on my computer, the printer will not print until I go over to the printer in another room and have to push a tray displayed. So each time I want to print, I have to manually push the black or color button to print! The designers have made this machine overly complicated! I won't buy a cannon again!

We would be happy to assist with the paper tray setting issue that you are having. The issue you are describing can be caused if the printer driver is not correctly installed or by the settings in the printer driver. To assist further with selecting the paper source, we would need some additional information. If you could reply to the questions below, we can assist further.

When I add the printer that is connected to my WiFi- no matter what settings - either on the printer or on the machine for preferences and type of paper, the printer ends with an out of paper error for Tray 1 and it requires a push of the button on the printer to choose Tray 1.

I used the most recent one downloaded from the site on one 2 PC's and that seems to fix the problem, but that makes it harder to use in a widely distribtued wifi environment where sometimes, folks can't run the .exe to install the drivers, etc.

Can you advise if there is a way to work around this or just to make it work when using the standard drivers that windows provides (Canon MF741c/743C)? The one that works uses Canon MF741c/743C UFRII, which the exe installed.

Greetings. I have a rig that uses 8 x 5700 XT cards running on a HiveOS USB. (I have to use the Beta version of HiveOS for these cards for the software to recognize and provide better descriptions for the graphics cards). Using the online interface, I was able to extract the original bios from each of the graphics cards and I saved each original bios image into its own file name.

I then uploaded the modified files back to HiveOS and then applied each modified bios to the same card that I obtained the original bios from as I am not sure of any differences of the Bios between the cards, e.g., some cards use Samsung Memory while others use Micron memory.

With all that out of the way, I have a question about using MPT. I found a guide to use MPT to further modify the bios of each card ( -5700-bios-modding-guide/5063). However, it seems that I cannot obtain the MPT file in the first place. In other words, I do not know how to go about creating or otherwise obtaining the MPT file in the first place. I was thinking that I could somehow create the MPT file from the original bios image (or from the RBE modified bios image) as the default values would be untouched at this point.

You have done pretty well with what you have for your first go at modding.
As far as having a modded bios for each card it isnt neccessary if all the cards are the same make and model.
1 modded BIOS will do.
As far as MPT goes, the only way you can use it is to plug one of your cards into a windows machine.
Once installed and the drivers installed you can then run MPT.
Your card will be displayed from the pull down list.
You then make any mods you need to and when finished you then save the mpt file.
You cant modify the mpt file in more power tools without the card being installed.
Sucks I know.

Yeah, I made that post when I was rather new at things. Now my procedure is to hook up cards to a rig (using risers) and just use HiveOS to pull out the default bios first. I save each bios from each card locally to a thumb drive. Then I change the bios for each card.

This is a preliminary document. It is incomplete, and in need ofadditional content. Please send additional information on IA-64processors, motherboards, and various devices working on FreeBSD tothe FreeBSD IA64 porting mailing list.

This document contains the hardware compatibility notes forFreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE on the IA-64 hardware platform (also referredto as FreeBSD/ia64 6.1-RELEASE). It lists devices known to work onthis platform, as well as some notes on boot-time kernelcustomization that may be useful when attempting to configuresupport for new devices.
