I've been playing around with this awesome script that lets me remotely install printers. I can get it working with some printers, but I can't get it working with our HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP. HP packages their drivers into installers, but I just need the INF file for the script to work. I've tried and tried and tried, on both XP and W7, using multiple driver packages, and I can't get any of the INF files packaged inside the installers to work. If I run the installer, the printer installs fine. But somehow I can't install with just the INF. Has anyone else had this problem with HPs?

No, but printing will be much slower. I only see that option used in home environments. And no, you load the drivers once and the print server takes care of the rest. You only connect to the printer share from the client machine.

Yeah, but "loading the drivers" requires using the INF, right? I mean, I could install the printer onto the server using the installer, but how would I, for example, load additional drivers for other OS's and bus architectures? I wouldn't be able to run the installers for those.

That's exactly the problem. I know how the print server works, but I don't understand HOW I could load the driver files if they come prepackaged inside an EXE installer. Yes, I can extract the files using WinRar, but when I try to install the printer using the extracted files, it doesn't work. I'm doing it with a script, and I get the error "Description printer driver unknown. Win32 error 1797". No matter what INF I try, I always get that message. I see no reason why it would just work if this were on a server instead.

It says I can unzip the installer and point to the 32-bit driver, but that's what I've been trying to do for use with the script, and I'm just not having any luck without running the installer program. I dunno. Installing my canon printer with the script was super easy. There was just one INF file for me to chose, and it just worked. I don't like the way HP only offers these installation packages.

Using Adobe Acrobat XI with Windows 10 and HP Laserjet 1536dnf MFP scanner, I cannot change output page size from 8 1/2 by 14, and custom scan or configure presets only allows automatic papersize. Is there another adjustment to make somewhere?
